for me, this is a bit tricky, but I would like to open up and share as well, so bear with me :) Having been a christian for a long time, I felt out of place in church community quite often. Although I tried to fit in (guess that in itself already sounds a bit silly) I found myself misunderstood a lot. When I talked about "I hear God speak" most of the people would hardly believe, and if I'd (unconsciously / unaware of it myself) call out things they thought, they would find me creepy and sometimes turned away. I must admit, I might not have had the best of attitude (intention) about myself / toward others back then, too. Until a few months ago. I met a person that is involved in Wicca. The encounter with this person was so strong and life changing for me, it showed me that I was very selfish, for instance. It opened up a complete new world, and I would find sayings, feelings and ideas so close to my own, that when I entered this site, for instance, it all fell into place, like half part of the puzzle that has been missing most of my life... I found mother earth, where we derive from - like a womb that suddenly opened herself to me (with awe and respect - that is also what I have lacked until now - having respect for my mother? the One I come from, who bore me, being thankful for life? I want to honor life, and see it as a gift - not something I have to see through...) I still believe in the Father God. I still think he is the initiator? But without mother, there would be no life. Balance - last few days, I left the balance, and I found myself missing here, and without Father, my brain would go viral. But without mother, I'd miss the source of life? I am not sure about the One True Patron Deity? I believe in angels, as well. Heavenly creatures that guide us, can protect us, if we follow the path of righteousness and love, harm none? Not particularly worship them. Are we here on earth to do good and bless others, as we have the ability to be strong (and balanced) and do good, heal e.g.? Still investigating ;) Blessed be

Worship isn't a term I use with my pantheon. I feel that we are all here to learn from each other. We all began with the One, and we are all still a part of the One, with our various strengths and weaknesses. I have found that my pantheon has evolved, as new experiences happen, and I think Horus has decided to come on board with my current group. It means more research to understand what we're supposed to learn from each other, but I can't ignore the recent influx of raptors into my lifr.

I'm not clear on who brought the teaching for one-true-patron-deity into Wicca. If Wicca is animist should there be only one? Early Wicca seemed to embrace a god and goddess of nature. Then somewhere in the 70s-80s someone recognized the usefulness of lore & jumped on the culture-based deity band wagon. I came in with the early 90s & it's taken 30 years to put an identity to that which first called me. But even without a name, there has been a force directing the spiritual choreography of my path and which responds as I develop.

Growth happens in a certain order; A happens before B, and leads to C, etc.,like a stone skipping across water, and all the rings overlapping. Just yesterday I was updating my BOS with my notes of 2016 happenings, and the trail of events became obvious. For the first time i could see that underneath, and linking these awakening moments, like a finger in the pond, was One verifiable and repeating Name corresponding to that first-call. And A,B & C all had to occur before I had the ability to see Her. So, that seems like a Matron deity to me. I'm quite pleasantly surprised.

When I first started, I chose my matron Deity because I considered I will need guidance on my spiritual quest. I pray and even talk to her, but the word "worship" is not defining this relationship. Gaia is for me the form of the Earth's energy; the life that flows in us, the animals and the plants. I respect and try to protect Mother Earth from being hurt in any way, as much as possible. I am dedicated to her, but also open to work with any other Deity that is "specialised" in my need.
For me, the matron Deity means the one I can relate most to and the one I ask for guidance. The others are much respected adjuvants. They change together with my inner evolution, but the matron Deity is part of me and my Higher Self. I also accept the possibility that there can be more than one matron/patron Deity; depending on what mirrors the personality and soul best. :-)

It's interesting that folks feel this patron deity is so very important to find. If that's the case I'm in big trouble because I've been doing this a long time and have yet to have any one particular God or Goddess step up and say they will be with me, or by my side henceforth. I think if you jump the gun and say this is whom you're working with exclusively, you close yourself off to to other messages and messengers from the etherworlds.

I work with many deities in the Celtic pantheon and while I resonate with Brighde quite a bit, she has never steped up and made herself known that I belong to her exclusively . Nor do I know if I want to be unable to petition another God or Goddess to help me at the risk of insulting my patron.

Bye for now, Firebird
I agree,....
and I was thinking the same thing,...this sounds a lot like Christianity,...we are supposed to be venturing the whatever gods & goddesses we see fit atm,....
I've been working a lot with prayer to Gefion (Norse goddess of plantations, fruition,..material wealth...(also legend tells that women who die as virgins accompany her in the afterlife...which would be Valhalla in their case, I presume) ...I have been trying to become more and more successful in my workplace, and already good things have been happening.

But, if I had to say one god has been with me since birth, and is innate,...it would be Loki.....and I'm not even only Norse practitioner,...also voodoo, regular white magic,...all strains...so I don't find this that helpful,.....
What problem I was having was which gods and goddesses to pray to...and over the past few weeks,...ive learned a lot...and they range from all over.
For me, I know I can & will not just stick to one deity. It won't work for me,.....

Much Love,

Cthulhu~Heather

I'm not sure I followed the A-B-C type of path. I think mine was more like the kids in Family Circus taking the longest distance between two points. Maybe that's the ADD.

I call mine a lot of names, not really sure which one it is personally, just like calling the creator or deity "Universe" as I have as well. Though, I'm mostly drawn to the Greek mythology, and Apollo catches my heart. I relate to him well as he's the God of art and music. The creativity part fits well, but his presence feels soft and sensitive like I am. He's my main go to. Others is Aphrodite, guess it's just the love part that gets me... Hecate when I need aide in magick or more energy in my power. She helps a lot. My spirituality has a very wide range, but I love it.

For me it is Athena , something about wisdom n justice. (Probably also has to do with my personality type-INFJ)
And there is Thoth.
I read The Emerald Tablets idk how many times. The book sends me a frequency and it’s like read me again you missed something.

Both wise n just. I like that. 2 halves to a whole.

I've been not reading English translation but it was said that there be still some hidden Emerald tablets around. Gradually to be exposed, so I wondered if there's been any more abundant version available lately.
