Any kind of natural remedy for Poison Ivy?

Post by TwilightDancer »

I've only just started studying Herbalism, so there has to be someone on here that's more knowledgeable than me-at least I hope so.

So I have poison Ivy, and It's not fun. It's all over and I'm feeling pretty miserable. I have calamine lotion, and it will help a little but is there something else I can use to speed the process of healing or make the itch go away(completely away).
Any help would be great because I'm feeling pretty bad over here.

Yikes! Sorry about the poison ivy ... I've never personally tried this, but I've read that boiling small twigs of birch in a tea, letting it cool slightly, and then applying onto the affected skin ...

Thanks so much for the reply, do you think this would work as a bath? The poison ivy is everywhere but my face.

Probably! I don't see why not. But again, I haven't tried this personally, so I can't attest to its effectiveness. Let me know how it goes ...

I don't bother with calamine. I use Benadryl and tea tree oil soap. Shower in the morning and one in the evening and you will not itch all day.

I know this is older, but I wanted to see if you used any of these remedies and did they work? I am highly allergic so I am afraid to go in the woods like I really want to because it is everywhere here...poison ivy, oak & sumac.

It took a while for the poison ivy to go away. I used a combination of things.
Calamine lotion was useless, it took half a bottle to cover it all anyway.

I took two showers a day and scrubbed(lightly) with a bar of tea tree oil soap.
I took birch tree tea baths at night.
I wore little clothing so that the air could dry it up as much as possible.
I also prayed for the will to not scratch it.
It took a little bit to go away, at first it was super itchy, but after I got my system of showers and soaps it was manageable.
