Anyone have extra mugwort I can try?

Post by Pinkpower_80 »

I've really been wanting to try this but I was wondering if anyone has a bit they'd be willing to send me to try out? It would be very much appreciated.

Well, I was going to see if I could help you find it in the wild, because it grows just about everywhere, and I read it was considered a noxious weed in North Carolina and Virgina. It always grows by water ways and in moist places. The leaves are alternate and green on top and white and pubescent on the bottom, smooth edge that is kinda oblanceolate and lobed getting deeply cleft towards the apex, it has a mintish (but not the smell of mint) and strong medicinal and refreshing fragrance when fresh. It can be confused with a lot of other stuff like ragweed, but the white/greyish fuzzy underside of the leaf is a good ID feature.
do you have a water way nearby?
http://www.nyctophilia.net/plants/mugwort.htm the site has good info.
Artemisia vulgaris can also be purchased through a nursery...maybe you could attempt to grow some!?
I can't determine the variety that would grow by you, could be A. vulgaris...the one that grows wild here in so Cali. is Artemisia douglasiana and the leaf is more long and grey than A.vulgaris. I found a variety when we were in Mammoth, like a sub-alpine variety...once you know the leaf structure and fragrance, you'll be wild-crafting before you know it! One other thing, don't collect by the side of the road, get several hundred feet away or more.
huh,... you did request a sample, and I went off on a tangent...If you like, PM me, we'll talk.
Blessings, Firebird
ps...be careful of the nettles ...collect that too, but use gloves!
