Re: Athame...
Most vendors, even on the rez get the bone blades from wholesale companies, which in itself is fine. The hybrid bones are byproducts of beefalo processing and while not as romantic are still beautiful. Here in Montana we have commercial bison ranches, so I am near the source. We also have purebred h...

Re: Sage
Any sage works for smudging and cleansing/purification. Most choices are made on availability and preferences. Where I live we have red and purple sage, both of which I cultivate. Much easier to gather from my back yard! Although I miss the days of wandering hills and pastures gathering for my grand...

Re: Bees please!
Happy plants, honey, and wax. It is easy to see why bees are sacred to so many cultures. When I was growing up on the rez almost everyone had a hive or two. I would like to try to make mead. I have several ancient recipes. I will post pics soon. Snowcat is right, we need more bats. I have built bat ...

Bees please!
Not sure where to put this one, but since my wife and I have an herb and flower/vegetable garden and I love cultivating medicinal and magical herbs native to our area, I just want to share our excitement. This weekend we will be collecting our first honeybees! We have planned and prepared for this s...

Advise caution, recommend awareness
At least 3 times per week as my schedule allows, I choose one of my favorite spots in the woods for meditation and prayer. Mostly this is simply burning a little sage or sweetgrass and tuning myself in. Each location resonates with a different spirit and are chosen for the particular vibratory effec...

Re: Can a stone call to a person?
When I gather stones, I use my inner 'ear'. Each one produces a vibration according to it's mineral makeup and unique shape. Walking along a pebble strewn river's edge is like listening to a symphony. I wear a necklace of bear tooth and turquoise when gathering stones or harvesting plants. I find th...

Re: Tourists
I accept your challenge Firebirdflys! Whenever I gather my secondary mission is trash picking! Snowcat, you present a valid point. In Yellowstone two people had trodden off the safe path to find themselves in hot pools. One was a 13 year old boy who was rescued, the other a 22 year old man who fell ...

Re: Athame...
My finger works just fine as well. What makes you skeptical about your bison blade? Funny thing about bison is that it is usually taken from femur bone and has a 'plastic' feel to it, but it does come in nice colors, from an alabaster white through silver gray, to almost black, if it has been expose...

Re: Bear dreams
You are obviously Bear Clan, like me. You are gifted with healing and creative talents, you are strong and easily step into the role of protector, and if explored you will find a knack for herb and plant magic. Such vivid and lucid bear dreams are guidance. Still yourself and listen. Find a Bear tal...

Re: Athame...
I don't use one either, but they are traditional in many practices and offer an opportunity to create something beautiful and useful. I think bone lends itself well. Bison and elk have very pretty color gradations and are plentiful. Many people I know here hunt and I have lots of deer and elk bone a...

Tourists / trash / Temple of the Earth challenge
Just a note to all who enjoy visiting our national outdoor spaces this summer. Welcome! Spread the word and example by PLEASE not throwing rubbish about or starting unnecessary fires. Remember that many of these places are sacred and must be treated thus. Would you throw your trash on the floor of a...

Athame...
Probably silly question and I am prepared for conflicting opinions but... Does the blade of an athame need to be made of metal? I have crafted some beautiful bison bone, antler and river stone blades that I intend to fashion into athames using only natural and unrefined elements. I have been told th...

Hello, I am new here
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I am hoping to make friends of a like mind. I am fortunate enough to live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Montana where the spirit of the forest is part of everyday life. My gifts lie in the creative arts and I love gathering all the gifts of the mountains ...
