I would try a guided meditation. Christopher Penczak has some good ones from his Shamanism book/cd for journeying. I think having someone talk you through will keep you intent and focused.

The best way is through meditation.

I mostly work with the Hindu patheon so they each have their own mantra. I usually just chant the meditation and thank them. I want to get in the habit of taking time to sit at their altars, light candles, chant and meditate twice a day. Even if its only 5 minutes.

I guess it depends on what you are wanting the herbs to do? And what herbs you plan on using?

Some herbs are safe to be taken internally and some are not. There are many herbs you can use for healing that are safe to take in tincture/teas/syrups/capsules etc.

I dont think it's necessary and not every one works with correspondences. I do sometimes and think of them as extra little power boosts to my spell.
