Re: Hair/Braid Magick

Thank you! It must be wonderful to have A grandma who can pass those tidbits down! I envy you...:-) I'm going to use this on some ribbon for practice, and see how it goes. My RA sometimes makes it harder for knots and such.. (and braiding) but I want to incorporate ladders in my craft work. It's on...

Re: Favorite Gemstone & Crystal

Amber. I have two amber pendants that I wear as necklaces. One is round, a yellow amber with many inclusions, and the other is teardrop-shaped red amber in a silver setting. I also have a lovely, large, display-quality chunk of amber with an insect trapped in it. It's an interesting and unique miner...

Re: Any figures of folklore associated with Autumn?

Veles was the Slavic God of autumn, often associated with death, dragons, and magic. He was something of a trickster as well, almost akin to Loki in the Norse pantheon. He had a festival that lasted from late December to February, the Veija Noc (The Great Night). He was also considered a god of natu...

Knot Magic

A random knot-spell I remember from long ago. My Nana may have shown it to me; she was a Strega. It's a very vague memory. Still, here it is: you can use it with any cord, making either simple knots or complex ones (as if you are crocheting or using a lucet). Theoretically, you could even use it whe...

Re: Hair/Braid Magick

I just remembered a little knotting cantrip involving nine knots--it feels like something from my childhood. My Nana Rose, who was a Strega, may have taught it to me or I may have picked it up in a book or some such. I suppose it would work with any kind of knotting or braiding, and any kind of spel...

Re: Niord-Norse Vanir God of the Ocean and more

That would make sense. He was as I said a fertility deity mostly associated with the oceans bounty. The Norse were either fishermen or farmers. You had a few leaders/politicians and you had some warriors but most worked the land. I've heard in my anthropology class that the most secure ancient occu...

Re: Hair/Braid Magick

Oh, i absolutely LOVE knot and cord magic! I mostly either crochet or use a lucet, and there are so many different techniques! I use a lucet because it fits in with my Norse Pagan background, but braiding human hair would also be appropriate for that.

On the Fair Folk

Too late the sons of Adam will cry, "Where are the children of the earth?"
Gone.
Look for,
but you shall not find them.
Weep,
for they are gone forever.

On the Nature of Magic

"Magic shall be written upon the sky by the rain but they shall not be able to read it; Magic shall be written on the faces of the stony hills but their minds shall not be able to contain it; In winter the barren trees shall be a black writing but they shall not understand it..." Jonathan...

Re: Do love spells work?

I did a ritual once to make someone stop loving me, because I didn't (and could never) love them back. I tried to create the spell so as to direct their romantic energies toward someone more receptive and better suited to the than me, instead of trying to just mess with someone's feelings. I think a...

Re: Can You Believe in Certain God/desses or All of Them?

I have a kind of dumb question. Do you have to believe in a certain Goddess or God or can you believe in all of them? Like let's say your doing a love spell, can you call to Aphrodite for help? I am just wondering any input would be nice. Honestly, that's one of the least dub questions I can think ...

Re: Saga--Goddess of History and Stories (and also drinking)

I wonder if Saga represents the Element of Water being female and associated with drinking. Mimir who also inspired Odin to find the runes was also associated with water but as a male. He was associated with water at the well beneath Yggdrasil, but as a male and cosmic consciousness type of wisdom....

Re: The Green Man

The Green Man is a puzzling figure. No images have been found of any Green Man of any kind before 400 AD. It may, however have been a long-standing symbol that we just don't have any earlier examples of, or it may have been introduced by another culture or society. The fact that the figure is common...

Re: When is the festival days of Bastet and Anubis?

Celebrate Bast on or about the 23 of July, when the Sun enters Leo. Anubis, however, I don't know BB, FF That's good to know! I go to school in Memphis Tennessee, and Bast was widely worshiped in Memphis, Egypt, so I can't help but feel her presence lingers here--we even have a pyramid. It couldn't...
