Thoughts on raw vs. cooked and such in magick

I was reading a post about tea and it gave different magical correspondences for white, green, yellow and black tea even though obviously they are the same substance, just processed differently. It got me thinking, when food is cooked then it can chemically change - vitamins and minerals can become ...

Pets and circles

Does anyone else have pets that wander through circles? I recently read something saying once you cast a circle nothing should enter or leave it. But one of my cats sometimes wanders through and that never feels wrong to me (once she walked through then watched the ritual from the side, I thought th...

Re: How to find your path

You can always pick and choose. Just because you feel drawn to wicca doesn't mean you have to follow the bits you disagree with. I know many self identified Catholics who are pro gay marriage, and that's followers of a religion kinda rooted in strict rules.

Re: Cleansing of money ?

Sounds stupid but perhaps it is worth thoroughly working out practical considerations before moving on to spiritual ones. You said his life is nuts - is offering you this money a decision he will likely regret? If so will that cause problems for you (will he be able to make you feel guilty for examp...

Where to start? (Small yard and indoor shade)

I would very much like to start looking after some plants but trying to find a balance between plants that are good for beginners and can also survive either in a small walled yard (in north east England, so I may realistically have to forget about any outdoors gardening until after winter) or insid...

Re: What are you doing for Mabon/Equinox?

I'm still not sure what I want to do on the day itself (I'm celebrating it tomorrow on the equinox rather than today on the date.). Over the weekend I want to spend the Saturday giving the house a good clean out, both in the practical sense of tidying and cleaning the house from top to bottom and al...

Re: Drying hawthorn berries?

I can't believe I searched the Internet so hard for 'how to dry hawthorn berries' and it never once occurred to me to look up the images instead. It will be an experiment no matter how detailed the diresctuons I follow are because I don't actually know the temperatures on the oven (beyond 'higher th...

Re: Complete Magickal Correspondence

Sorry, should I cut the last bit out? I'm unphased by gore in general and further desensitised due to first aiding some reasonably graphic injuries so I forgot it might bother people.

Athame or boline?

I am quite new and was under the initial impression that an athame never cuts anything physical but is used as a spiritual tool and a boline or white handled knife is used for any physical cutting. But then I read a book of candle magic that suggests using the athame to inscribe symbols into candles...

Drying hawthorn berries?

I've been going on a few nature walks just in the nearby park and there are quite a few blackberries and loads of Hawthorn. I've seen dry hawthorn berries used in a variety of tea and tincture recipes (and it seemed a smart way to store them to have them on hand for later use). I've looked online an...

Re: Complete Magickal Correspondence

This is an incredible resource! I'm a beginner and it's already been so helpful. One possible addition, if you think it would be useful or relevant. Laurel can knock people out if too much of it is cut on a still day, or if some cut branches are stored in the back of a car on the way back from getti...

Re: Storage

Oh, thank you so much for the knowledge about the full moon, I was quite miffed with myself thinking I'd missed it! I'm aware that plastic isn't great for storing some things from a practical standpoint as it can absorb stuff, I was mostly just wondering if it would be okay to use to store a big pla...

Out of date herbs

Can you use out of date herbs if you don't intend to ingest them, like for making scented oils or similar uses?

Celebration dates?

Does anyone do celebrations slightly off from the correct date when the actual date is inconvenient? For Mabon this year (22nd?) I will be working all day and then driving all evening to go and stay with relatives who really wouldn't be happy with me doing anything pagan. I was going to see about do...

Storage

I guess this is kind of two mini topics. The first is the storage of altar tools. I was looking into the very simple basics of what each tool is used for and the website I was using for reference said that all tools should be stored on the altar as putting them in a box would be disrespectful. I don...
