Salem villagers loved John Indian's witch cakes, as he called them. They
were made of barley meal, water and herbs. If you wanted to be cured of
smallpox, John would add a cup of baby's urine before baking, and then
feed the cake to the dog. If the dog shuddered, you were cured.
