What is Magick Used For?

Postby SpiritualPagan » Fri Jul 01, 2011 4:22 pm

Hello there all!

I just want to explain what Magick to me means. Of course you don't have to agree but I am sure most will. And you don't have to follow this, but it's probably recommended. And one more thing, this isn't to offend anyone so if this offends you, then please except my deepest apology. I am truly sorry if this offends you in any way.

Now, what do I believe Magick is used for, and how do I use it?

I use Magick to help others and myself, but with good intentions.

Using Magick as game, for greed, for selfishness is simply wrong and will come back to haunt you.

How should I know? I do, never experienced it because I've always used Magick for good, but I have seen how Magick can hurt others and themselves.

Never use Magick for your own personal game. Use it for what it is meant to be used for, to help and heal.

Use your Power with caution and use it wisely, always.

Thanks for taking the time to read this important message.

Many Blessings of Abundance to all!

that was very nice Josh :) I agree with you we should use magick to be able to help and heal not to just take care of our frivilious wants.

Disclaimer: This post was written for Wiccan newcommers. I recognize that not everyone here is Wiccan.

It is often that a seeker of the Craft comes looking to jump head first into the art of magick and casting spells. While this may be tempting, there are many things that must be considered before one begins spell work. One should familiarize themselves with the ethics of magick and how its laws work, learn meditation to bring into their lives a calm within so they may make decisions with a clear head, learn how to look at situations and find mundane solutions, and develop a relationship with the gods and goddesses they work with. This will provide a strong foundation for the seeker to begin preparation for learning the magickal arts.

To understand the ethics of magick, most importantly the rule of harm none, requires more than just to know it. It can be far too easy to work a spell that, upon first glance to a new seeker, does not seem to cause any harm when, in fact, it does. Anything that alters the free will of another is in fact bringing harm. The best thing to do before working magick is to take at *least* a full day to think and meditate over any spell you are considering so that you may cover many angles and perspectives to be sure you are bringing no unintended harm. To a new seeker, this may be a hard task to do on any matter clouded by emotion, getting the urge to work magick in haste that you may later regret, especially as emotion is key in strong magick. In a situation like this, try to take the time to ground and center so that you may calm yourself enough to think clearly about the situation. For those new to magick, it may also be helpful to have a spell reviewed by other witches, either known personally or in an online community, as those outside of a situation are better able to see things that those involved may not. It is also a good idea to perform a divination for your spell, Tarot or scrying would be best, to view how your magick will play out.

In addition to understanding the ethics of magick, one should also know how the laws of magick work. Magick is a force, a flowing of energy, that exists in all things, flowing all around us and within us. It is the essence of the divine and can be shaped, manipulated, and used through the will. Magick itself is neither good nor bad, black or white, it merely is, with only the intention behind its use that is one or the other. Before a spell may be sent out to act on will, the energy must first be built up within the sender. This is the mechanism behind the law of threefold return. In addition, that energy that you will then be charged with will also give off a signature of its own which leads to another law of magick, the law of attraction, which states that like attracts like. While this applies to more than just magick, as it is energy based and more than just magick has an effect on someone's energy, including emotion and mood, the working of magick has a great impact calling this law into play.

The seeker should also make a habit out of a regular, daily meditation. Not only will meditation provide the seeker with a foundation of knowledge and experience of working with the energies within, which will have a great impact on later magick, but it will also give your life more inner peace that will provide you with more clarity in situations and decisions. Meditate in the morning to face the day with a bright outlook, at night to wash away the day, after a stressful situation to calm yourself and let the stress fade away. If you do this, not only will your outlook on life, and even your life itself, start to improve, you will put yourself in a better position to make clear decisions about magick when the time comes for it.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when you are learning magick is that not only is magick not the answer to everything, it should only br used as a last resort. For this, the seeker should understand and learn how to calmly and wisely analyze a situation so they can determine if there is a mundane solution to their problem. If so, and there usually is, even when we refuse to see it, then that path should be attempted before any magick is cast.

Lastly, it must be recognized and understood that the Craft is, first and foremost, a religion and not a toy, role playing game, or quick fix to your problems. While the use of magick within the Craft may be a large help with matters in your personal life, the purpose of the Craft is to help attain spirituality and enlightenment and a personal relationship with the divine. The development of which can be formed in many ways. One way is by daily meditation. Another by going outside and experiencing nature, feeling the energy that surrounds you in the wind, rain, ground, plants, wildlife, thunder, the sun, the moon, stars, and all the night sky. Take in the beauty of nature in its many forms. Meet the gods with astral projection. Talk to them on a regular basis, they will listen. Pay attention to feelings and signs, they may "talk" back to you. Start "living magickally" by blessing yourself each morning, connecting to nature, visualizing the process you food goes through to bring you nourishment, every stage from seed to store clerk. Connect yourself with that process. Try to go a full year-and-a-day of celebrating the Sabbats and esbats before doing any spells. And always remember, Wicca is a religion.
The Goddess is like the moon itself, guiding us in our darkest moments.
