What else can I put in a Witch's Bottle?

Postby missdarlingjess » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:37 pm

I already know the basics of what most people put in it, like glass, nails, body fluids and dirt. But what else can I put in it. I have tried to collect the basic items, and I barely filled it at all. I've been thinking about rotten food (specifically, onions) and my bent or broken needles from sewing. But what else? Any ideas are appreciated! :D

I put stickers with pictures of guns, knives, syringes, poison, pics of ghosts, evil witches, and other things I wanted to ward from me. The craft store A.C. Moore does carry these things in the sticker section for scrap booking.

How about some stinging Nettle? Rose Thorns? Spit is a good one. Basically anything you would use to protect yourself in a spell as well as anything you think will "hurt" the offender and make them not want to return. Broken mirror pieces would also work nicely I think.

I really enjoyed this blog post about witch bottles by Jason Mankey. He recommends:

1. Items to slice and cut, such as nails, razor blades, broken glass, etc.
2. Edibles to cause thirst, burning, or blistering, such as vinegar, hot peppers, spoiled wine. (I'd also add garlic or onions!)
3. Silver dimes for reflection of negativity
4. A piece of yourself, such as a nail clipping, hair, or spit.
5. Sealing it with wax, ribbon, or tape and burying it.

He even created a very nifty little incantation as you do each step:

Items to slice and cut:
Sharp and pointy
Metal and mighty
No one shall hex or curse
So says this witches verse

Edibles to cause thirst, burning, blistering:
Blister, thirst, and burn
To this spell we turn
Taste failure taste despair
So says this witches prayer

Silver dimes:
Silver dime protect me from harm
Be a part of this witches charm

Piece of yourself:
I give this bottle a bit of me
From evil and darkness free
Witch bottle I have conjured thee
The spell is now cast so mote it be!

Sealing:
I seal this bottle whole and well
Now I finish this witch’s spell!

Burying:
I bury this bottle deep in the ground
Now this witch shall sleep safe and sound!

Definitely agree with the shards of mirror, Loona, and with Xiaos idea of 'anything sharp and pointy'.

The idea is to deflect negativity and to add something of yourself as the target.

In the past I've used nails, coins, beads of jet, and also herbs like Rue, Wormwood, and Vervain.

You can draw a rune of protection on it, or the rune for thorn if you're connected with runes. If youre working with guardian spirits or egregores then you can also add something to represent them, which might attack when disturbed.

You can also add the seals of Solomon - eg the 3rd pentacle of Jupiter, the 2nd pentacle of the moon, the 4th pentacle of the moon, the 5th pentacle of the moon & the 3rd pentacle of Saturn are the ones I use for protecting myself spiritually and my home.

Clove spikes and rose thorns. Also I used old batteries to represent battery acid, don't know how good for the environment that is.

That's a neat idea! I feel like things in the witch bottle aren't supposed to decompose into the earth anyways, so long as you keep it in a sealed glass jar, so I am less concerned about that one.

Love this, thanks... I was thinking about trying that tomorrow, we will see how it goes!
