Birthstone: Yellow Topaz; Good for anything?

According to a chart I used to have, the flower symbolizing my birthdate is a carnation. Woohoo.
A question: Does anyone here know anything about familiars? According to some sites I read, catnip can create a psychic bond between you and your cat?? I dunno. I'll post some spells here later.

WARNING: Exercise caution around fire, witches burn just as well as the more mundane folk.

You Will Need:
* One candle, in a color that works best for you.
*One piece of paper. (Again, you can vary! )
*A pen.

Light your candle. On the paper, write at least three admirable qualities about yourself. Go wild, be conceited for a bit! Brag about talents and good qualities on the paper. If possible, fill the whole paper!

The candle should be partially melted by now. Fold your paper, and drip wax on it to seal it shut. With your pen, carve a rune for admiration or respect into the wax.

Burn the paper now, while saying something along these lines:
"Blessed be, those who see, my admirable qualities. Merry meet, I should greet, more admirers to crowd my seat."

Collect the ashes by rolling a small chunk of warmed candle wax in them, to create a charm out of the paper. For at least a week, hold the ball of wax and ashes close while speaking aloud good qualities you possess.

Now, you're ready to be respected.

Now, I discovered a few things about astral experiences while browsing this site and a few others! There happen to be a few correspondences that supposedly help with journeying to higher planes. But isn't astral travel basically just meditation with a higher and different result? Could using gems, colors, or herbs said to cleanse the mind work? Could a Diamond amplify even the qualities that other stones possess to help amplify our concentration of energy on higher planes?

I used to, and still often do, think of any and all familiars as a silly little black cat. When the word pops up in reffereance to witches and wizards, I see cats! EVERYWHERE!

I love cats. This may be the whole cause of that.

From how I see it, a familiar could be a close animal friend, or a spiritual guide on higher levels. Does a witch's power level or type determine her familiar? Sometimes your spiritual guide isn't the same as your 'real life' familiar. Is this common?

I've actually seen fellow witches perform rituals to summon familiars, both physically and spiritually. From what I understand, you basically set up a small altar space with many statues or representations of the type of creature you wish to summon, and cast a circle, before actually summoning a creature. I also know it takes a while for the spell to kick in, yeah?

I'm not sure if you can summon a new familiar when you already have one or not, I've never tried. For me, it's hard to summon a familiar. My first was a Corgi, Baby. I didn't have to summon her. She was with me from the time I came home from the hospital, up until a little over two years ago. She never left my side, at least not willingly. She was thirteen when she died, a ripe age, but the cause wasn't natural. Cancer caused it, ironically, the Crab being the sign she was born under, by human calculations.

Recently, I tried summoning a new familiar. Our newer dog, who Dad had saved from the pound roughly six months after Baby's death, Nilla, suddenly acted much kinder and less rowdy around me. And two days after that, we found a stray Chihuahua who warmed up to me instantly.

It was crazy, seeing as I had tried to summon a feline familiar, because of my allergies to dogs. Could someone accidentally summon two or more familiars?

* A lock of the affected's hair
* A small bowl or bottle of water.
* One White Candle
* One pink Candle
* A Pink Altar Cloth (opt.)

Seeing as Aphrodite is the Goddess of love and beauty, it makes sense to invoke her blessing during this, as longer hair often would make you prettier. Spread your pink cloth, and set up your candles, white to the North and Pink to the South. Cast your circle, and call upon Aphrodite ( or the love/beauty god/dess of your choice.

'Lord/Lady of romance, passion and lust,
Of beauty untouched,
My hair must lengthen, oh it must!
Please bless this water so it may serves my needs,
It is my will, so mote it be.'

Then, kiss the surface of your water, and place the hair in it. Within a month, you should see results.
