Question on prayer

I'm wondering on a few things.....

Like is prayer or communicating with deities required like everyday?
I tend to get busy or the idea slips from my mind then I forget to pray.
It's been bugging me for the last few weeks, so any advice?

It depends entirely on the role you want deity to play in your personal practice. If you're not too interested in building a relationship with a deity, if deities don't really come into your practice, then it would follow that prayer would not necessarily be all that important for you. However, if you want to build a relationship with a deity, then yeah, you've got to put in some effort there. A deity will have a hard time coming into your life if you've made no space for them.

I think it depends on the relationship you want to have with your deity. Putting it in human terms, if you were in a romantic type relationship with someone and tended to forget about the loved-one for days on end, the relationship would turn into a distant acquaintance and not a romance. The intensity would cool, even if the love remained.

Daily meditation impacts the intensity of the relationship. People experiencing an intense relationship with Deity often can't wait to get to their prayer time and chat up their best friend. If we want a better relationship, we do the work it takes. Simple.

There are many ways to spice up a spiritual relationship other than meditation and prayer-time. Attitude of gratitude throughout the normal events of the day is one. Just saying thanks for getting me across the street without being run over is one I've found useful. (Can you guess I walk with a cane? :) ) Or saying "thank you" to store clerks who bag our groceries rather than ignoring them like drones.

Taking a moment to express delight in the way greenery forces it's way through the cracks in the side walk, standing happily in a stiff breeze and allowing it to cleanse the aura, leaving bread crumbs for the birds, etc. You get the idea that it's little things that show appreciation for the efforts of Creation throughout our routine day that helps to turn the thoughts and heart toward Deity. And that's prayer.

It doesn't matter when you pray, it matters how you pray.

I know this is an old post but I thought that I would put it out there that I feel prayer is "as needed" not just asking for help or anything but even just to talk. I feel like if you want to talk and say thank you they would want to hear that.
