What Are Your Five Essentials for Your Practice?

Just thought it would be interesting to hear each other's preferences. So, just for fun, list five "things" you want on hand, some supply that you never let yourself run out of, or a tool most frequently used, even a favorite chair or spot in the sun, the sound of silence... what ever it takes for you to get motivated or to be comfortably well set for the next rite, ritual or spell.

To kickoff...

1. White candles, all-purpose
2. Holy Water - lightly salted & moon-blessed water which I use to purify ... everything
3. I take a full Thermos of coffee along because sooner or later I'm going to sit back & want coffee
4. My quart-sized cauldron because I probably will burn something, water-gaze, or charge something
5. Mint has associations with all the elements: earth/prosperity, fire/health, water/intuition, air/cleansing, spirit/protection

Edit - I have to add orgone accumulators/generators. I'm freakin' crazy about the things.

Hy! As a broom-closet Wicca practitioner, I can't use supplies that cost much or might seem too creepy to my family.
So, my five "things" are:
1) Candles (usually red or green as I think they help me establish the connection with my goddess)
2) the small statue I usually place on the altar
3) Incense (rose or pine)
4) Salt (for casting the circle)
5) The 4 things that represent the 4 elements (or at least to me)

My mind, visualization, purpose, some degree of mental clarity, a focus for the work. I'm just not a tool person. I occasionally use candles.

I have a "go everywhere" bag about the size of a baseball, it has a pendulum, small crystal ball inside a seashell box/with hummingbird feather, wormwood oil, and a bird calling device/(with extra rosin), recently I added a little protective charm which is a piece of mandrake root wrapped in copper wire.
The bag itself has a drawstring with one of my first herbal charms hanging from it, so it is quite special to me. The charm was carved out of orris root in the shape of a fist holding an eye. It used to creep people out when I wore it, it looks pretty decrepid now. (Hahaha even better!) But it's in my backpack or purse nowadays, so no one sees it anymore, or should I say "it" doesn't see anyone anymore!

I never run out of my herbs and witch bottles. Or my candles. And my sage smudging stick is always on hand. My tingshaws are also a firm favourite, to clear negative energy. Along with my deities, my altar is adorned with many crystals.

1. Any candle that happens to speak to me at the moment.
2. A small bag of my favorite stones I have on my persons at any given time.
3. My pets- they are always around and I view all of them as my familiars. They keep me calm.
4. Anything that smells good.
5. Coffee or tea. I need them to live.

Oh girl, I hear you on the coffee!

Lately I've been putzying around with orgone accumulators. I may have to add that as a #6. I have even put them in the refrigerator produce drawer & have them on my altar and with my rocks.

Fewer things to keep track of. Keeping track of my mind is enough work. Lol.

I'm with you there, Snow. Less is more. This is just for getting to know about each other on the Forum. Although, I stand firm on the coffee. halfsm

I think what prompted it was downsizing my household when I retired. I was thinking about what ive still kept and can I cull the herd some more. I donated years and years and years of accumulated books and the random collection of tools and pretty things. But I could not just give away my athame. Even the thought of decommissioning it made me nauseous. So, a "thing" has come to represent the path and all I've experienced within it. Even though my blade is stored and I don't need it, so didn't put it on my short list, it is just a material symbol. Pry it from my cold, dead hands. So I wondered what other people do...Plus, I'm a sucker for shiny, sparkling bling.

Seriously, I cannot make it though a day without it. My fiancé works at a coffee roaster warehouse and he brings home these amazing blends that were messed up orders all the time. I'm spoiled.

I've been working coffee into my spell work lately- I like storing it near my favorite crystals (usually citrine) to give it a bigger metaphysical boost or energy when I drink it, or putting it in magical oils for luck and happiness. It is DEFINITELY a tool for me.

Oh, this is a good one.

1. Other people (at EUTM or in my group)
2. Fire (candle, firepit, etc.)
3. Songs
4. Dance
5. Stories

Is that too vague?

My five are
1) my mind
2) my 4 stones which I use to mark out the quarters
3) white tea light candles as they are all purpose and rather cheap.
4) the piece of paper I printed off from a website on how to cast a simple circle
5) my phone as I also use it as my BoS

Nature, which is perhaps cheating, since I can forage so much from around me. Drum. Stang. Fire of some sort, be it oil lamp or bonfire. And the internet. Which may not sound as mystical, but it's a huge source of historical information and modern inspiration. (Although realistically there must be a 6th, my knife, although if I could only pick five I would go without.)
