New year's~

Hello! n.n
I'm a beginner what comes to wicca, and i'm not too sure if this question is generally stupid or if i am taking it to a whole new level of stupidity.. hahah~
My friend is a wiccan, a lot more experienced than i.
The new year's comin up soon enough, and i want this one thing to happen next year.

I've been terrified of water for exactly ten years now due to trauma.
I never have learned to swim and one day i infact did try, and it kind of went bad.
(which is funny, due to my horoscope pointing at water element. :D )

I really want to get over this fear of mine and learn to swim.
My friend suggested that i'll make a wish at new year's eve, at night, perform a ritual and call for a god/dess for help.

Due to the fact that the very friend has a bit of a tendency to lay about random things, i don't want to trust with all my might, so i'm just asking if this is something one should do?
Is it possible to pray or to perform a ritual in order to gain strength to over come my fear?
If so, how should i do it, and which god/dess should i call out for?

Thank you for reading, i hope you have a splendid day!

A wish spell is a good suggestion but as much as you may not want to hear this I believe a professional therapist would be a good route to go on this. Baby steps. Once practical avenues have been taken then I would turn to the magical.

Traumas of any sort are a hard thing to get past without professional help first. There are therapists that will do the hands on approach to fears getting you gradually use to the idea. When you take showers or bathe in general do you fear the water? What is it you are truly afraid of involving water? What do you think will happen to you when in a pool, lake, ocean etc.? These are the basic questions that will need answering before you can move forward and face that fear.

I use to have an irrational fear of drowning (with no trauma involved) it wasn't until a friend took me to learn scuba diving that I found the drive to let go of my fear because I wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef. And I finally did only a few years past! It was my passion, drive and ambition to achieve my goal that I got past that fear, once I was in the ocean with my gear on giving me air that I realised it was so peaceful and amazing. Fear gone.

Perseverance and your positive focus on getting though it will help. Keep trying, practice makes perfect and eventually you will be in touch with the water element and it will not scare you as it did before. Tramatic happenings like that can take time to heal from if you are persistent enough you will overcome the fear. Good luck and Blessed Be.
