Cleansing Water & Charms

Hey, guys! I've seen some questions floating about regarding how to cleanse water or even cleanse physical charms. I just thought I would share what I use in hopes of being able to help someone out! These are not the only ways of cleansing, so please don't think it's limited to just this. (:

Cleansing Water

There are four ways to cleanse water (as well as charms) that I know of off the top of my head and only two of which I use myself. They are:

By Moonlight ("Water")

By Candle ("Fire")

By Crystal ("Earth")

By Breath ("Air")

As you can tell, each utilizes one of the basic elements. I'll elaborate on each for you, and want to stress that this is by no means 100% the only way to do this. There's far more ways to do it!

Before delving too much into this, I want to very quickly touch on the types of water that you can use. Quite honestly, you can use WHATEVER you want. Everyone has their preferences, as I've heard some like to use purified water while others (like myself) just use tap. Some even collect rain water and use that! In my opinion, though, you're still going to have wonderfully pure water in the end because of the cleansing method you do. There's nothing wrong with any way you want to do it, though, and I strongly suggest you do what feels best for YOU.

By Moonlight

Moonlight is what I equate to water because of the oceanic tides. Some may have heard of this method, as it is commonly used to help cleanse a new Tarot deck that you have purchased. You simply leave your water (or even charm) of choice on the window sill under a full moon so that you may charge the water with the moon's energy (or to those following a Wiccan, Goddess, etc. path, the power of the Goddess or a Moon Deity).

By Candle

To cleanse by candle, you would need to keep your water in the container you have it sealed in and once you set up your candle inside of your sacred space (be it your altar or wherever you complete your magickal workings) you can run the container carefully over the flame and say/chant/sing/etc. a prayer that speaks to you and use this as a means to bless your water.

If you are going to be blessing a charm, the method I use is different. You of course want to be mindful of the flame and avoid burning your fingers, so I simply take the charm I wish to bless and cleanse then run it through the smoke of the candle instead. Then after that, I actually place this charm into blessed water to complete it's cleansing.

By Crystal

I'm not entirely familiar with this method, as I've only tried it once, but I used a quartz crystal and charged it in the moonlight then set it inside of the water overnight to draw in the impurities to the crystal rather than the water itself. I don't use this method too often, as it's easier with my schedule to use one of the faster methods.

By Breath

The method I'm sharing is something I took from Reiki practices. Within Reiki there is the belief that you can instill reiki into anything and as I do energy work I instill the positive energy into my water or my charm simply by blowing onto it. I imagine all of the positive energy being drawn into it and I will suck in air as if I'm sucking in the negative energies of the water or charm/item I'm cleansing. Of course, after I pull it in I quickly puff out to dispel the negativity from my own body.

I would be a little careful with this method until you've learned a bit more about energy work, though.

Some other methods

As I said, these aren't the only methods you can use! Some others that I can think of off the top of my head are

By Essential Oils
By asking for blessings from your deity
Charging with the sun
Charging with Herbal Tea (this is more so for charms, having it soak in the tea that has positive properties)
And more!

I hope this helps you with your journey!

Bright Blessings and happy workings~

With Sakura's recommended cleansings, I'd like to add that you should be sure the method is appropriate to the item being cleansed. If you're cleansing with water, make sure your object won't be damaged by water. Just little common sense things that can be easy to overlook.
