I think everyone has their individual needs. Like, I personally have no use for wicker baskets... I mean, I guess if I had some, I'd use them, but I've never felt I needed to buy them.

I also rarely ever actually purchase something for use in Wicca. I've bought some clay with intent of making something, stuff like that... but mostly I use stuff I already have, acquire as gifts, find, make myself (out of things I already have), etc.

As for books, I usually use the library. I used to own a few books but I lent them to someone, and their girlfriend destroyed them because they were evil Satan worship books.

Like Scaravich said, everyone does have their individual needs. Personally, I hardly ever use ritual tools. I typically use herbs and candles for spells. My rituals are very simple and I try to have them outdoors.

well...this could be a very long list...although like Ray says, simplistic ritual in the out of doors doesn't require a lot of tools...after going out with a group that used to haul this giant box into the woods, requiring 2 to 4 people to carry it, I tend to try and keep it simple (I say try...doesn't always happen)
This is my essential list:
Chalice
Pentacle
Athame
Wand
Cauldron
The above list includes the 4 elements and Spirit

Other stuff might be:...in order of importance:
water ( to drink ...for the chalice...for the bowl or to douse an accidental flair up!)
ale or juice (to represent the nectar of the Goddes)
bread or cookies ( to represent the seed of the God)
candle (or flickering battery operated one)
lighter/matches
incense (or herbs to burn)
charcoal ( in the cauldron for incense)
a favorite crystal (for grounding or skrying or..?)
oil (for anointing)
flashlight (though we tend to use the Druid vision for hiking)
representation of the God (Lord) & Goddess (Lady) as in statuary or other form
bowl (for offerings or holding the water element)
salt ( for grounding or adding to the water for purification)
hourglass timer (for guided meditations)
bell or singing bowl (to signal the beginning of ritual or to clear space)
broom (to clear space)
sword (to cast and call with)

this list could go on and on depending on the Holiday and what sort of feeling or magic you are trying to invoke, but I will stop for now. Obviously all these things are much more doable if you cast your circles in the backyard or in the house, rather than trying to schlep them into the woods!

A few thoughts:

I'm not sure I agree that a list like this is a) possible or b) necessary.

For one, yes, everyone's needs are different. E.g., I have never used an essential oil, not once, but I use my slate and chalk in nearly every ritual.

Furthermore, the list of things I want for ritual and the list of things I need for ritual are very different. I would love and adore a doll representation of every deity I work with, a beautiful silver chalice, and a full cabinet of dried herbs in pretty glass bottles... but some of the best spells/rituals I've done have been just me and the ground, or just me and some notebook paper, a pencil, and a match, or just me and my voice.

On books: There are plenty of good books out there, and I recommend reading them and even owning them, but if you can read critically the internet is really a fine library.

For things people MIGHT need. Ideas, prompts. Not things we DEFINITELY need.

In my opinion, having a well-stocked pantry and kitchen is one of the best things you can have when it comes to magical workings ... kitchen witchcraft is frugal, easily concealed, and versatile.

I have found ritual "theater" to be of great fun and deepening of symbolic meaning to ritual, this requires lots of planning, cast members, tools and props. So the list could be huge depending on what feeling you want to invoke. We made a Brigit Well once, complete with bubbling water, plants, ribbon strips, stones and sparkle glass in the well and blue glow sticks in the water... that added an eerie hue! Then we had someone sitting next to the Well and aspect the Goddess Brigit. It was quite a ritual, powerful and charged with energy, everyone came away with helpful message, and a deepening of spirit.

Alternatively, some of my most profound rituals have been off the cuff during a hike, and the only "tools" I had was a bottle of water, my hiking staff and a pocket knife. I will usually pick up some seeds, leaves, twigs, or rocks to make an altar or build a Fairy house, nature has all the "stuff" already out there!

I feel when one is on the path and learning the way of the Wicca you can never have too much information.

Well, here's what I like to keep around:

-plenty of salt and flour for making salt dough, or some salt dough in a ziploc so that I can sculpt when the need arises;
-my goddess dolls (I make my own from salt dough and paint them with acrylic)--right now I have two Billow Maidens (one was a gift, actually), Hel, Ma'at, and Nut;
-A goddess candle and god candle (I use tealights with no wrappers on small saucer-like dishes so that they melt all over and the candle continues to build on itself);
-other little candles (chimes, birthday candles, tealights) for ritual and spellwork;
-a wand and athame, although I basically use these interchangeably;
-a boline;
-wire and needle nose pliers for wrapping gemstones and wirecraft;
-clear glass jars and other clear glassware for storage of ingredients and ritual use;
-parchment paper, quill pen, and ink;
-chalk and slate;
-matches;
-tarot cards;
-runes;
-reference books (I especially use "Simply Runes" by Kim Farnell a lot);
-altar cloth;
-ivy and floral hair wreath for ritual wear;
-string or yarn;
-apples (if you don't use them for ritual, just eat them--they're good for you! But they're also a very magical fruit good for many different magical purposes);
-for the same reason I keep things like almonds and chocolate around;
-tea;

That's a much longer list than I planned on writing. I'm contributing this as the things I keep around personally from which you might draw inspiration, not as my list of things I think every witch should have.

Yes. I write spells often based on the herbs and spices, teas, fruits, and nuts I already have in the house. It makes for economically efficient, delicious, and heavily personalized spellwork.

Also, our bodies are like an altar with majickal provisions. In our bodies, we already have 4 of the elements:

Earth
Air
Water
Spirit

So you can just use a candle to represent fire.

Tea light candles
Kosher salt
Apple cider vinegar
Mason jars - I am a glass jar hoarder, lol
If you have the money a good bottle of vodka. Besides tinctures it's great for offerings if you have nothing else in the house.
Honey, besides spell us it's a good wight offering. I get the raw, organic it really does taste better.

Haha, me too. My family gets a kick out of donating them to me now whenever they have some they think I'd really like, lol.
