Pillow Plushies

I enjoy sewing and embroidery, but my attempts at making three dimensional stuffed animals don't turn out very well. They tend to be a bit misshapen. So, as a solution to the problem, I started making what I call "pillow plushies".

They're called pillow plushies because they're basically flat little pillows, usually big enough to fit in the palm of your hand. I draw a picture on one side, embroider it, then I stuff it like a pillow.

This one here is a plush phoenix I made last year.

Also, if you're wondering, the bowl I placed behind it was to prop it up so it could be viewed properly. The lighting is bad and it didn't show up well when I laid it flat on the counter.

Pretty cool! I have a friend that does something similar to this but she has young children or children with disabilities design the animals. She asks then to draw their favorite animal and color it however they want. Then, she recreates it as a pillow and make its look as close to the drawings as possible. She doesn’t correct anything or make anything more even or straight. Then they get a pillow of their own design of their favorite animal!
