My School is lame. a week ago or so i had my tarot card out and i was doing a reading for some of my friends and i was in study hall and i had nothing to work on..anyway..me and my friends nikki and paul where siting in the library and the library...chick walks up to me and says "you have to put thoes things away" and i did not fight with her beacause i would really like to keep my cards the rest of the day. so i put them away and ask why i had to it broke no ruls. and she said "its a Religious thing...just dont have them in school" and she walked away. (and i did NOT like her tone it was so Bi@chy)

so i cant have my cards in school...BUT the Christians can where there tee shirts every day that say "wwjd" "juese love you blah blah blah" and that dont get talked to like i did. Wtf?!?! and theres a bible in the library...what happend to curch and state being..separate?!?!

me and some of my wiccan friends are mad.we want to do something but...that will get us no where the school is to up tight.

What do you think about it? do you think we should do something? have your own story like this? Tell.

[[ By the way...we are jouners in high school...a public high school]]

Yes! This is definitely something that should be sorted out. Church and state are required to be seperate, meaning that religion and public schools shouldn't be linked. I don't mind there being a Bible in the library, but for them to have a Bible in school means that students should be able to bring in religious items of their own and not be discriminated against for it.
I think most of the discrimination is because narrow-minded people don't get their facts straight and Wicca is related to Satanism in their minds for whatever reason, when it clearly shouldn't be. Satanism is just a backwards form of Christianity if you were to think about it for a moment, because instead of worshipping God you worship the inverse, Satan.
Wicca IS NOT Satanism and people need to be more open-minded about learning about other religions before they 'tag' them as one thing or another.
Me and you should raise hell.

what was the play if it was Jesus Christ super star then it should be fine as it was one of Andrew Lloyd Webber top plays. you should not have had anyone say anything about the tarot cards and the bible can be there as long as it is viewed as an historical text or fiction. but it really ticks me off when any religious practice is discriminated against especially if it's not in the student hand book. And so long as you are not faculty then you are supposed to be OK.

Then you should have grounds for taking action. They can't legally restrict your religious displays on the one hand while at the same time allowing others to display theirs.

As an adult that has wondered as you have.... it is my understanding that while a bible is allowed in school by a student - the student is not allowed to have the bible open at any given time so they cannot impose their belief system on to another person... and it is my opinion that this is probably what happened in your case - you had the cards out (open kind of speak) and the card are seen as a part of a religion in the schools eye, therefore, you were ask to put them away.

... blessing

Smushroom, Under the constitution you have the right to practice any religion in a public place. It is freakin pissing me off that the schools are so discriminative of everything besides Christianity. You should stand up too them!!!!!

Yep they have no legal ground. I would be curious if this issue was ever resolved, assuming SMushroom is even still around.
