How do you turn over your cards?

I am wondering which way other readers turn over their cards. Do you turn them to the left or right (horizontal) or do you flip them over in a vertical way? One way doens't feel right to me more than the other, it's mainly important because I read reversals.
Thanks

Hi Gen! You haven't been around in quite a while... it's nice to see you again! (I disappeared for a while myself, but obviously returned as well.)

Ah-hem, I'm off my welcome wagon now... to your query, I actually also read reversals and have always flipped in the "improper way" via bottom to top (vertical flip) as I lay the cards. I know that's not the preferred manner, but that is what has always been most appropriate and comfortable for me. I've also had nothing but good luck with my method... and if ever I'm reading a particular card with the improper divinatory/reversed meaning, I can rest assured that my Maggie dog will be over to flip it around for me. (I always lay my cards out on the floor).

How about you?

Hey, I can't believe you remembered me! Yes, it's been a while. I turn mine to the left because I guess I thought I should, but I'd like to do it the way you do. I suppose what is meant to be read will be read so it probably doesn't matter.

i do left to right side flip. i started out with pulling it towards me and flipping it "up," but i realized after a while that it was messing me up, so i forced myself to be consistent with left to right. i find it works well that way for me.

But of course I remember you! :28:
How's your son (if I'm remembering correctly, that is)?

Generally, once I get someone in my head, I don't easily forget them. I guess you just "got in there". LOL -Really though, there aren't too many of us 2004'ers left anymore- Orion is still here, Being Singular Plural... of course.. JB Raven a little bit too... but that's about it. (Sorry if I've forgotten anyone!) It's always nice to see a familiar face... uh, avatar.

I agree though, what is supposed to be read will be... though the way the flip is "taught" is like Hanged Man said- left to right (not the vertical up and down flip.) I think though, that if your cards know how you flip them, they'll be in the right position (divinatory/reversed) when you start laying them out. Afterall, a well formed deck is an extension of the reader, so it'd only make sense to have them just "know". I'd read for yourself or something several times first with a new flip-method though, before doing any readings for anyone else-- just so your deck can get used to the new way you're handling them.

Bright Blessings to you!

I'm fairly new at tarot and haven't been reading reverses, as the book that came with my cards suggested getting familiar with them before you decide....but some of my readings I cannot make out certain cards in readings...so I think I'm going to move on to them.

Will definitely start with left to right :) thanks

Deakay, you mean by "can't make out certain cards" that those 'certain cards' aren't making sense because you're reading them all with the divinatory (upright) meanings? (I just wanted to clarify.)
-That would make sense though, the readings would be something totally different with the appropriate placement applied (divin./reversed) -so I do suggest laying the cards the way they are handed to you rather than all upright... will probably make things a lot clearer!

But yes, the "approved" manner for card-flipping is from left to right or right to left; (just not the way I do, the vertical "bottom to top" way) so as to not disturb the order and placement of the cards once they're handed to you by the querent. Regardless of a right-to-left or left-to-right flipping style, you're still leaving the placement undisturbed, so it just becomes a matter of what's most comfortable for you and your hands. :28:

I find that as I lay mine down I flip them from from left to right. Seems to work ok for me
