Advice on the Tarot?

I finally went out and purchased my first deck today! I'm really excited to start learning and practicing, but I have a couple of questions if that's alright!

1.) Okay, so, my deck came with a, basically, beginner's guide to the Tarot, and in it, the author suggests going through each card one by one and, in a journal of sorts, writing down what you feel the card says or represents; basically going by your intuition. I'm just worried that what I'll think it represents won't match with what is in the book. What should I do if it doesn't match? Is that okay?

2.) I know it will probably be a bit before I get familiar with the meanings of the cards, and well, the cards themselves. But I'm just wondering if you guys think it would be alright if I started by simply drawing a card from the deck in the morning to see what my day is going to be like? I feel like that would help me learn more because I, probably like lots of people, learn more from doing then actually studying.

If you guys have any other advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you all in advance!

I think you will be surprised at how accurate intuition can be. The cards have a way of speaking through the reader. You don't even need experience for this. Though reading someone else's cards is much more difficult than reading the cards.

If it doesn't match up? Maybe you've stumbled onto some hidden meaning ;)

Although, there are multiple dimensions to this approach. The first could be like you say -- seeing what the day will bring. But if you change your intention when drawing, you could easily draw a quality or emotional characteristic to meditate on that will help you understand yourself and how you interact with others.

Great idea! See, your intuition is ready leading you down the proper path ;)

Most importantly, try and connect with the highest ideal governing the tarot, before you begin. Have fun!

Yes, what becks said. If you think the card has a certain a meaning different than the traditional one, then that card has 2 meanings for you and your intuition will let you know which meaning is meant during a reading. And, many people start by drawing 1 card per day as you suggested. It's a great way to familiarize yourself with the cards. Good luck!

Hello!

When it comes to interpreting the cards, there is no wrong answer. It all falls onto you and what you feel the card or symbols to mean. The booklets are more of a guideline than anything.

As for drawing a card every day, that would be referred to as a 'Daily Draw'. It's a common thing to do and a great way to slowly get to know your deck through use.

If you want to take a free online course about Tarot, there's a free one on Udemy called 'Get Answers Now: Learn to Read Tarot Cards.' I'm enrolled mostly for a little extra knowledge and you can do everything off your phone or tablet since Udemy is available as an application. You can complete it at your own pace once enrolled as well.

Try not to box yourself into 'this has to mean this' or 'that has to mean that'. That's the beauty of interpretation. We can be looking at the same thing yet see it in a completely different way. If you like the way a card is translated or the way someone sees it, feel free to adopt it.
