Tarot for a beginner

I'm looking to buy my first tarot deck. I'm a beginner and I want something that'll come with a book so I can learn from it. I'm probably going to go looking at my local new age shop sometime next week for one, but in the mean time...does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for something not to 'fluffy' but not to dark either.

Cael it really all depends on the one you feel connected to or comfortable with.
There are so many in the world some beautiful, gothic, and some...weird,but I always think if you want a tool you have to be drawn to it.
I'd just keep looking till finding "the one".

I did, and I found one that seems to work well for me. Now I'm just looking for spreads to try out.

What deck did you buy, Lady Cael? I bought the Gilder Deck today :)

I bought the Tarot of the Angels deck. It's a pretty deck, but I'm not having much luck with it, feels off. Seems my search continues. -sigh-

Connect with the cards first...learn each one's meaning. Sleep with them under your pillow. Shuffle them. Cleanse them. Give them a while :)

Sleeping with them under my pillow will help?

The hardest time I'm having with the deck, is the meanings list that came with them is very short, a little sentence for each card. And it doesn't even talk about the reverse meanings, I'm going to end up needing to buy a book.

Yes, sleeping with them under your pillow will create a bond with the cards and yourself...just make sure the cards are in a pouch so you don't lose any. The internet is a great resource for finding the meanings of the cards :) but of course, books are wonderful.
