Vivid and lucid dreams, simple how tos?

I know theres a simple way to get more vivid dreams and more dream frequency/recall. Its simply keeping a dream journal. But I have noticed it was no help whatsoever to lucid dream.

I would call the dream journal a passive practice. On onlien nearly all of the lucid dream tips are active rather than passive, like they want you to relax and fall asleep using an egg timer set ofr certain amounts of minutes and such like a dream hacker almost, Im not comfortable with that because it means I wouldnt get much sleep, I would need to buy things, and such.

I would rather know a passive action for improving lucid dream occurances. I have stopped my dream journal, which prolly isn't a grand idea though, but I read that writing on a notecard am I dreaming? on it and drawing a symbol on the other side, then pulling it out frequently throughout the day is supposed to help because if you pull it out into a dream the symbol will change then you knwo you are dreaming, or you read the question and it makes you notice you are dreaming, but Im just starting this out.

Do any of you know any passive activities for getting a lucid dream to occur?

A few suggestions...take a few moments through out the day, to observe your surroundings. Read an exit sign, look away and then read it again. Check a clock to make sure it's keeping time. Put a mark on your hand so you'll see it all day (as opposed to a notecard). Flick a light switch. Look at your reflection. Hold your breath and if you feel you need to take a breath, you're dreaming.

When you come across a clock/exit sign/your hand in the dream, it's the perfect moment for you to realize that this is a dream and go lucid from there. The first time I went lucid, it's because I realized a lamp had two knobs for turning on lights instead of one.

I agree, dream journals are a good way to become more vivid and for recall, which incidentally makes going lucid easier.

Surprisingly, my dreams are improving for lucidity even though Im not looking at the notecard in my dreams yet. Its like when you are half aware its a dream, liek awafre on a subconcious level and then you try to eexploit the dream almost automatically to get what you want, but it's not full lucidity yet but it might be because my awareness is icnreased from remembering to look at the notecard (in my case a piece of paper) more often or because more attention is devoted to becoming lucid during the day perhaps.

I think I will try the double checking stuff and the mark on my hand thing I might also try.

First time I went lucid i was like 5 and my moms ex was very mad at me, and I tried to leave, like flight response, but i had nowhere to go so I sort of did somethign wierd with my eyes then I ended up seeing a distorted version of the dream, then I realized blinking could wake me up from nightmares, and woke up. The dream was about my first day of first grade.

Another noteworthy lucid dream I had when I was young was i asked my mom if i was dreaming she said no and in a silly way tried to hide the fact ti was a dream which made it veyr obvious i was dreaming lol.
