How to introduce/devote yourself to Lilith

Maybe, you have had signs from the goddess Lilith. You've seen owls at night. You're drawn to the waning moon. You embrace the night. Studied her lore. Perhaps, you have even seen her in your dreams calling you to her embrace...... However, you're at a lost on what to do next!

Don't fret! This post is specifically for anyone who is new to Lilith and doesn't know how to go about it. Let's start this very slowly.

The first thing you should do on this path is introduce yourself in a ritual to the goddess Lilith and invite her in your life. Do not worry about casting spells, circles, or making elaborate ceremonial rituals. This will be pretty basic.

You will need:
  • Red or black candle. (White is a fine substitute.)
Incense; sandalwood, patchouli, or sage is good to start with.
A pic of Lilith or a statue. (You can use images from your phone!)

At night, light the candle and incense in front of the Lilith picture. Offer these things to them, state that they are for her. Hold the candle in your hand. Now it is time to do your introduction to Lilith through prayer.

The prayer:
Goddess Lilith,

Lady of the Night!

Divine Lady Owl!

Immortal Queen!

Ruler of the winds!

She who was there since the beginning of time!

I answer the call you have given to me!

My name is ________ and I pledge myself to you, as a devotee!

Guide me on the nocturne path!

Teach me of the shadows that harm, and those which do not!

Lead me to think for myself and sustain my independence!

Beautiful Lady Lilith of the wilds,

I invite you into my life!

Ave Lilith! Ave Lilith! Ave Lilith!
Say this prayer as many times as you feel you need to on the first night. After that, you don't really have to use this prayer again. Unless you feel you have to. But it might be better to find other devotions or write your own.

The candle is your Lilith prayer candle. Do not let it burn down. Light it every time you feel like praying to Lilith, and blow it out when you're finished. It will last longer this way and (hopefully) not be a fire hazard.

It is completely optional to mark the candles with a marker or ascribe it with a knife the symbols of Lilith and/or her name. If you do not know symbols, there is a list of Lilith correspondences I have made.

Congratulations! You're now a Lilithian; a devotee of the Dark Mother!

Lilith is death. Not a fun destination when you're planning on staying alive. I wouldn't want to encourage people to pray to some dead bird around the bend. Spiders are interesting, but I won't turn myself into a fly to go and say hi.

Lots of people worship death gods/chthonic deities and aren't wishing for death of anyone or themselves. It isn't new. I wouldn't call Lilith a dead bird either.

She may not be a positive symbol for you, that's fine. But she is for me.

Many folks follow death Goddesses Mordinna, those who are devotes of Hecate, Morrigan, Kali, Lilith or even Hel are not worshiping death nor wishing for it on themselves or others either.
Frankly it would behoove one to learn the qualities of Goddesses who are closely associated with death, for in that study you will likely find compassion, understanding, nurturing and enlightenment, along with life. Because they go hand in hand. These Goddesses are also usually linked to prophesy, sorcery and magic as well.

By the way... it is customary to introduce oneself when entering a room, please swing by the intro section and let us know a little bit about your path. Thanks

This is so cool Lady Lilith!

I'm more drawn to the full moon, and pray to Selene. But I like the night goddesses as I love the night, the hidden, exploring the shadowy aspects of myself. I don't know too much about Lilith. Is she like Nyx, a representation of the night, or different?

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I've had a really unpleasant time with the visions and voices I hear. I see a lot of danger in the world as a result, very real danger, not just romantic ideals. So it's difficult to get back to myself sometimes or return to that innocent me that sort of approached spirit communication as being all positives.
We kind of think we're above or evolved beyond bad stuff now but not at all. The darkness is the perfect place for malicious people to hide, and of course the very place everyone goes to feel mysterious and special, or if in love. So catching good people is very profitable. I complete respect anyone who is genuinely trained and can hold their own on the other side but otherwise feel quite nervous and genuinely worried for people. We imagine Gods being up to date and benign, which is very naive. They can come charging at you like a raging bull. As far as experiencing the mysteries, most people are in the sort of maiden stage while acting as though they're in the later ones. Communications can be intercepted, you might have a friend, or you could get picked up by local weirdos who think tripping you about is a fun game. Tripping 'fakers' or putting you in a freezer bind is a popular pasttime atm, so it's a legit worry. Lilith is like Eve's opposite isn't she, in the dark moon phase, on the other side of our right hand switch, which is like a door to the afterlife we keep closed for obvious reasons once you know it's there. Death is real, so is psychic murder and illness. It's not complicated stuff, it's a theory reflected in traditional witchcraft and runes and rarely talked about, it's an oral tradition or something received in the cloud but there's a lot of bad guys right now, and I'm young so I'd rather defy the secret and just say.

Sure there is bad in the world, but there is just as much good. If one focuses on the bad then that is what they will see.
The Goddesses of darkness help us to see the light and can be a valuable assistance against foes in the dark.
I'm sure Lady Lilith has some good info in that respect.
Again...Mordinna, could you please introduce yourself? Thanks.

@Element I wouldn't quite say she is the embodiment of the night itself like Nyx. I would more say she represents the unknown facet of darkness. The chaotic wilderness and things most people, at least in the ancient world, feared. Lilith is probably more comparable to Lamia and Hekate. A night goddess, but not the literal embodiment of night.

@Mordinna If you followed my link to my blog I cover Lilith's "bad sides" in other articles. I have addressed it over and over. Even with my own upg. This is just a basic intro for anyone interested, hence the opening paragraph assumes the audience is already familiar with her myths.
