I agree with others. I feel like that it would come back to you. You can protect your brother in safer ways.
You could make a protection sigil, energize it, then release it by burning it & forget it so you don't draw it back to you.
Write your brother's first name, middle initial & last name. Add his birthdate as numbers. Make a positive statement: NAME-Birthday IS PROTECTED. Cross out any duplicate letters or numbers so only one remains of each. Cross out any vowels. Combine the remaining letters & numbers in any form - caps, lowercase, upside down, backwards, etc., to make an attractive glyph. Place a closed circle around it as a shield. Add 5 upright stars around the outside of the circle. The Petegram is protective. Feel free to embellish, color, or tweak as you feel guided. Such as, instead of his birthdate you could draw his astrological sun sign, if you know it. You could say "MY BROTHER FirstName/sun sign IS PROTECTED" just so long as you identify it's him and not someone else with the same name. Transfer the glyph from your scratch pad to a clean sheet of paper. Use any paper and pen/cil you have. It only needs to be a few inches across, not a whole sheet of paper. Use more words if needed, but not more than 7 or 8 or it gets too cumbersome to draw. Keep it simple and to the point.
To energize it, hold it in your hands. Gaze at it. See it glow in your imagination. If you can simagine it 3D, that's even better. Then burn it to release the power. You may want tom do the burning outside, in a heat proof bowl. I think it's best not to name the toxic person as you do not want them associated on the same sigil.
If you want to work within a cast circle, that's fine, but if you don't know how to do that, skip it. Sigils don't care.
Lastly,if you can't burn your sigil for any reason, then tear it into as many tiny pieces as you can and toss it into the wind, or into a stream; as long as it's moving and scatters the pieces.
