I'm not sure which category to post this in, but does anyone have any examples of cleansing blessings for your house? I know the procedure, I'm just not sure what should be said.

I just did a cleansing blessing for my new place. Here's the general outline of what I did:

1. Start by doing a general house cleaning -- sweeping, washing dishes, wiping things down, putting things away, etc.

2. Call the quarters by whatever method you like. I prefer to sing my quarter calls.

3. Cleanse the house with each element while chanting: "Infinite power of the divine / Protect and bless this house through time"
- AIR: smudge with sage, waving the sage into the walls of the house while walking deosil around each room*
- FIRE: walking deosil around each room with a red candle
- WATER: sprinkling salt water while walking deosil around each room
- EARTH: placing 4 quartz crystals as protection wards, one in each of the cardinal directions of the house
- SPIRIT: walking deosil around each room while ringing a chime or a bell

4. Light lavender incense to invite positive energy

5. Say a prayer to Hestia, goddess of the Hearth and make an offering. I used this prayer to Hestia that I found, while sprinkling salt and flour (a traditional offering) into a red candle that I've dedicated to her, and then bowing to her.

6. Dismissing the quarter and closing the circle.

**********************************************

My boyfriend had woken up earlier that morning to our bathroom light flickering on and off strangely, and was nervous that it was a ghost (and he's an atheist and normally doesn't go for the supernatural, so he must have been pretty freaked!). I didn't necessarily think that it was a ghost, but I had kind of gotten the feeling that the household spirits hadn't warmed up to us yet. He got home from work about 30 seconds after I had concluded the ritual, and immediately commented that the place not only smelled great but felt much more positive and inviting! Haven't heard from the "ghost" since ... knock on wood!

**********************************************

* I would have liked to go deosil around the perimeter of my new place, but since it's part of a larger complex, that wasn't possible. So I wound up doing my best to go deosil around the inside perimeter of my apartment ... but since there are all these pesky walls in the way, I wound up mostly smudging all the walls. Luckily my new apartment is quite small!

Xiao, I'm just now seeing this. What a nice home blessing\space clearing ritual. I strongly recommend doing this consistently (once a month on the first, or during a chosen point in the lunar cycle, or some other time marker that is personally relevant to you).

I stopped doing this (I used to do something similar to this regularly, but have been hit and miss the past year, been so busy), and boy do I reeeaally feel the difference here! Blech. Seriously need to get back into the discipline. It builds up energetically over time... in a good way if you're consistent with doing the ritual, and in a bad way if you're not, if you know what I mean. It does build up, and it's harder to "clean" the longer you let it go, and at the same time it's harder for things to "sully" the environment if you're consistent. Things tend to "bounce off" rather than stick, kind of like keeping your car waxed properly, versus letting it go and the water doesn't bead as well, the paint is not as protected. It builds up (especially since you're in a complex and other people's energetic crud will be in such close proximity to you), so stay consistent, trust me!

Anyway, nice response to the OP, and great post, in general. Thanks for sharing.

This is a very thorough cleansing method!

Thank you for posting this!! :D

Xiao, your link to the prayer isn't working (for me anyway) could you recite it here?

We've been redoing our house, getting rid of things that were dragging is down. We painted, got New Carpet. I thinkin should do something to perpetuate the improvement.

I actually made a really good elemental house blessing using all the elements. Here is a link to it. Tomorrow is a full moon and it's wise to do it then. You want to start in the center of your house and clear out the bad from there. Out with the old. In with the new! :flyingwitch:
