Wicca -quick overview
.There is no ultimate authority in Wicca. We study mythology & lore. Some popular texts are The Wiccan Rede, Witch's Creed, Witch's Rune, Charge of the Goddess, and Legend of the Descent of the Goddess.
. Nature is generally perceived as divine with two forces: The Goddess and The God that go by many names.
. Wicca generally guides the experience of Deity-in-Nature through ritual observance of seasonal cycles at the Sabbats Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane & Lammas, Equinoxes & Solstices & at full moons (Esbats).
. The use of the ritual circle, the altar, the ritual tools, & spell-craft are inter-related parts of Wiccan practice.
To move energy
. Breathe & pull energy up from the earth & down from the sky to pool in the belly.
. Practice pushing energy from your belly to your hands;
palms facing to feel the spongy resistance.
. If herbs interest you, choose 3. Feel, smellP & taste each. Let your reactions tell how to use them.
. Find a few uniquely marked stones for stroking, chanting and swaying to aid trance.
. Make a pendulum & determine if each is oriented to passive/lunar energy or active/solar energy. Use lunar stones to calm/pacify conditions & solar stones to activate.
. These become your starter kit: energy, herbs & stones.
Re - prepare sacred space - 2 examples
. Circles keep good energy in & interference out. Do this before you cast spells.
. Start & end each pass at ex.1. north, or ex.2. east. Simple circles dissipate when walked through.
1. Broom-sweep a circular area <~widdershins to cleanse, then point & walk deosil~> to project energy circle, or
2. Walk three circuits deosil~>: 1st sprinkle mixed salt-water to cleanse & introduce earth/water; 2nd waft incense smoke to bless & introduce air/fire; 3rd point & project the energy circle
. Words for both:
Round, around & round about, all good in & all bad out. / As I walk the circle is cast, guarding all & holding fast. (ref.Doreen Valiente)
Re - altars are your work space & a mini-circle
. Use symbols of Deity & natural elements of land, sea, sky & fire to direct thoughts & shape energy
. Ritual tools represent elements - air-wand, fire-blade, water-cup, earth-pentacle; womb/phalic shapes rep. Deities
. Basic gear -incense+bowl, candles+holders, cup, salt, represent 4 Elements
. Polarity Set-up: pacifying earth & water to the left (-/+) activating air & fire to the right
. There's no rule that gear must come from witchy shops or copy any particular style
. Consecrate the table 1st, then the tools; purify with salt-water, bless with incense & anoint with oil, magnetize
Re - spells
. Learn to focus: Hold your gaze on a candle flame until it's all you're aware of. Practice 5 min daily.
. Know your goal - to attract something, to repel something or to empower something
. Select materials that feel related to the goal by element, property, appearance, color, scent, symbolism or contact
. Use wording in positive phrases, present-tense (It-is & I-have), & don't say what you don't want
. Draw power on the breath from earth & sky into the gut, focus & as you exhale push energy out hands into spell
. Keep the altar elementally balanced for good results
