Spells without candles?

Merry meet, everyone!

I was wondering...could you cast a spell without using a candle? I realize that it's common practice to use candles...but I'm in college and we are definitely NOT allowed to have candles or incense.

So what could I do instead of using candles?

Any help would be appreciated.

Signed,
Griz

I've heard of people using a picture as fire inspiration, a firey fairy, or a pheonix or even just a picture of a candle :)

i wouldnt say you have to use candles for all things. I hada friend once who would chant, he rarely used anything else aside from his will, focus and nature

No, you don't have to use candles.
I often chant (or pray, whatever you'd like to call it) and never use any candles. I just focus hard on what I want, and it works most of the time.

Little story but it has a point...
I was at the stone store looking for black candles, and i asked the owner if she had them she said no, but you can use a white candle insted because its just a symbal, if you can focuse hard enught you can get past the fact its white and make it black.

So i belive if you can get past the fact its not there, and see it in your mind then its there.

Just remember that it's not the physical objects that are doing the spell - It's you.

It's the concentration of your will that makes the 'magic'. The physical objects are only there to help with visualisation and focus. It's more than possible to work without physical objects.. I certainly don't use them, and I get by fine :).

Good luck!

I use them when i have them, but i dont have them alot. But when i dont i emprovize, use kitchen salt, use a small glass as a challase, little things like that, and useing an image to represent the elament is also a good idea.

Ah...thank you all so much...

I have trouble focusing, which is why I liked using the tools, so I've started doing some focus training.

This is great to know this, because i'm pretty new at all of this, and I don't really have any candles except for the white ones my family uses for power outages and jack-o-lanterns. And the only thing I have to light them with is the camper stove lighter that I nicked from the kitchen along with the white candle (they won't be missed, no one has ever used that lighter thingy for anything once we sold the RV). I do want to get other coulored candles though, it would be great if they had dollar store packs of a rainbow of tiny ones. I should check next time i'm there, but it's great to know I don't neccicarily have to use candles in order for a spell to work.

You might want to check out information on knot or cord magic. All it requires as a tool is a bit of cord or string which makes it very useful for working when you need a simple tool.

Check out the information on some of these links.

If you feel you need symbols to help you focus, you can as Addalaide said improvise well. Sometimes I need visual aids and others not.I like to use elementary symbols sometimes, as I have a short attention span! And I work outside a lot and sometimes in urban areas, where setting up shop, ritually, would get me some unwelcome attention!I like using crystals or stones associated with each element. You could use Tattwa symbols drawn on card or paper, in appropriate colours too.

I hadn't thought of using stones as representations. That would make it easy for travel!

I also have troubles focusing. I'm new to this path; I have been interested in Wicca and read about it for years but it was this season that I've been able to actually set foot on the trail. I'm proud to say that last night I meditated 'successully' for the first time! I had only incense and my breathing to focus on last night (didn't want to light candles or my cats might knock them over!)

So, yeah. Just use what feels right for you.

I always have stones about my person! and often leaves and twigs in my hair! Scruffy is me. For someone not long on your path, you come across as very mature and knowledgable Sercee. They are easy to use and unobtrusive too, the stones that is.
