My first wand, and my first Circle... it's crazy!

I am a bit at loss for words. I read a lot about Wicca and witchcraft, I've been studying it with passion, but I never dared to try anything...

In the end, I decided I would find my first wand. It was the tool I felt the most appealed to for some reason. I went outside in my garden, and searched the ground for a stick. I ended up finding a twisted piece of wood, half rotten. Still, I liked it, and I worked for a while to save it from the mold. I did cut a small part of it so it wouldn't be too long. It a little thick and heavy for my wrist, but I thought it'd do for now.

This was in the morning. I left it in my room to dry and I went to attend some other business. But a few hours after, I was dying to play with it like a child...

I decided to cast a circle. No prayers, no incantations, no nothing. Just me, the wand, and the energy from the Earth. It was a small circle, barely a meter large. I wasn't even inside. Once it was complete, I gave it a bubble shape, as instructed.

Then my cat arrived in the corridor. I had cast the circle in front of my door, and it was in his way. He stopped. I called him to me, and he looked annoyed... and slowly tried to squeeze around the circle !!! But there was not enough room, so he just backed off and ran away...!

I'm feeling dizzy right now. I'm very excited it actually worked. I closed the circle, and here I am. I think I realize now how much time I wasted by just learning without acting...! It's like I did more in five minutes than I did in a year of eating books...!
I'm not doing the same mistake again ^^ My real journey has begun.

Thank you ^^ It is quite something, even more so since I had some other strange experiences today after that... I feel kinda exhausted. That's enough magic for today...!

Still, I had no idea what kind of wood I found for a wand, so I went to investigate. I'm not entirely sure, but I'm almost certain it's apple wood. I should take some time to study its properties and symbolism in the coming days.

(Gentle People please correct if I'm mistaken!)

Shadee,
The dizziness you felt is the energy you have "built"
and it don't know where to go so it affects our bodies
oddly. Might I suggest having something small to eat
and drink to "ground yourself" again after doing spells.
Gentle Light
MsMollimizz
P.S. Please cast the circle around yourself, this is like
a protection spell and you need to be included !
Might I suggest a couple books that helped me understand
Wicca ? I realized I was already doing this info in this book
but he makes great sense and easy to read !

MsMollimizz> I should have done this, you're right ^^ I didn't think about it, even though I know about grounding... This was foolish of me.
The next circle I cast, I will make sure to make it big enough, and to be inside. Just this once, I wanted to try and see if I could do something with the energy from the Earth and the Stars. Maybe I shouldn't have played with magic like that, but I'm glad it worked ^^ I mean, it's almost like I could see it...!
I've never read any Cunningham book. Until now I mostly followed the works of Mackenzie Sage Wright, and I read Thea Sabin. I'm also reading about psychic abilities, and crystals, and things like this... Maybe I should try to find some of his work.

Tyrande> I pray you find it ^^ It's a wonderful exercise, I love mine already...! Blessed be!

I think you and your wand have found each other. If it is {and it sounds like it is}apple wood it has twist in the grain with a resilient feel to it. It should be used by only those who wish to work positively. It does not work well with dark workings. It may sabotage such workings to the workers misfortune. It is special to those who wish to converse with entities in their native idiom. As to wasting a period of time, remember, you can not use a piece of information you do not posses. You do need to not over think things. You end up spinning your wheels and going no where.

I can't feel the resilience, for it is a thick branch, and I think it's been dead for a while. I had to pull the moss and white mold away. Also, I'm pretty sure the tree died because of poisoning. My father tried to fertilize it, but he still had a little weedkiller in his tank, and the tree died. They cut it down after that. I hope it doesn't make it any less valuable as a wand...

Apple wood sounds beautiful the way you describe it ^^ I hope I'm not mistaken. The only other option is a pear tree, that died the same way...

I'd still vote apple if it's pear you have a good wood for your purposes. It's internal wood will have a straight grain with a golden yellow hue. They have an earth centered power and are specially known to be used by those who pursue wisdom. They are both from trees that provide food of much the same kind and that grow in the same basic conditions.

I can't explain why, but it makes me happy somehow. This is my very first tool, disregarding the Book of Shadows. I'll make sure to use it for good, Goddess bless.

I'm afraid the inside has been partly drained of its color. I can see some yellow, or maybe orange, but I can't tell for sure. But if you say it's not all that important, then that's fine. I'll just say it's apple wood if I'm ever asked !

Thank you again for all the explanation. I wish with all my heart I'll be a wise crone someday, but for now, I'm thankful for the everlasting bliss of learning as a novice...!

I consider myself a novice. If we stop reaching we stop growing. It is when you stop trying to learn that we are dead. Dead to what we owe ourselves and our fellow beings. Always remember and feel that sense of wonder. It will serve you well. You are NOT here to learn from me. WE are here to learn from the multiverse!

I would say the same except it was ground wood after a couple trees had died in a farmhouse's garden in the Bocage.

IMO the type of tree and whether a branch is from a living tree or a fallen limb only matters if you are working consciously with land spirits or the spirit of a particular tree with whom you are acquainted. Then you'd have a bond with more then a hand tool. Every craftsman uses hand tools.
