It Didn't Feel Like It Was Me In The Mirror.

Yesterday night, when it was really late, I opened my laptop while I was sitting on my bed. It was very dark and there was only the light coming from my laptop so since I can look at myself from my bed in my mirror, I turned to look at myself. I saw that it was only me in the mirror, but the longer I looked at it, the lesser it seemed like it was me. I got sort of freaked out so I looked back to my computer screen instead and didn't look back. This wasn't the first time that it happened. When I was also younger, I had a dream about something and then I saw myself staring back at me in a mirror but even though it looked like me, I knew it wasn't. It made me really scared though. You guys might think that I'm a freak but that's what happened. If you guys might think that it means something, please do not hesitate to post. I have a feeling that it's something but I don't know what..

(If you guys get confused, Im really sorry. :P Feel free to ask questions)

Was the person threatening in any way? I know when I was little I had a similar experience. I looked in the mirror and saw myself. But when I glanced back it was like a much older version of me. The facial features were similar, but i was at least 15 years older. Now that I'm that age though, I know it wasn't me at all. I look similar, but it definately wasn't me.

Years later at a family reunion, someone had brought pictures of my great grandparents. In them my great grandmother was seated and very pregnant with her first child. In the background was the person I saw the in the mirror. When I asked about her, I learned that it was my great grandma's sister. She died three days after the picture was taken, the day my great aunt was born.

I always kinda chalked it up to her living on through me. I never felt threatened by her presence.

I don't think it was threatning me but I'm not sure. When I had the dream when I was younger, I think I woke up screaming. It scared me so much that I wouldn't even dare to look at myself in the mirror. This time though, the more I looked at myself, the more I realized or knew that it wasn't me. It didn't really scare me...It was more like a shock I think. It looked like me though. Maybe it was the eyes...Im not sure. I wouldn't glance back though. As soon as that happened, I closed my laptop and went to bed. But Im 99.5% sure that it wasn't me...

perhaps it is you, or the you that inside you feel that you want to be..? was she beautiful, or ugly? Did she give off any feelings, like longing, or sadness? Was she younger or older? And another question, are you able to communicate with spirits? Because it also might be a spirit that connected with you and has no way to communicate with you other than trying to get your attention? I don't know, it might be an image of you that wishes to come out (or soul self, basically) or it might be a spirit thats trying to get your attention and has no other way to do it.

In witchcraft, mirrors aren't only mirrors, they are also portals, maybe to a parallel universe? maybe to another dimension? who knows? anyway, the feeling that it wasn't you, might was real, or the simpler version, you got freaked out by your reflection, you know it happens to me a lot, to look at my self and feel like its not me, I swear myself in the mirror seems cruel, but I'm not cruel, so relax, you are you and nobody can harm you! if you feel annoyed by that mirror, move it to somewhere else, where you don't need to see ytour reflection all the time.

Don't get insulted Alyssa, but may I ask? do you have any depression problems? because I did and still have some,so anything was bothering me, remember not all problems are magickal....if you need to talk I'm here!

Actually Greek_Male_Witch, I think I am.. But it has gotten better. But my room was the only place where I can actually feel relaxed and nothing in it has actually bothered me (Unless there's people in it. -.-). Until that night with the mirror. I didn't glance back though...Too freaked out. But I'm sure that it wasn't me and when I think about, I'm okay with that. I guess I was freaked because I knew that it wasn't me but it was MY body. No, I do not communicate with spirits..I don't think. But in my room I often think that I see something in the corner of my eye but turns out there's nothing there... Would there be a way to find out if maybe it was a spirit or something?

Hi, xAlyssa,

I had to reply to this post because I've experienced this myself on a number of occasions. It is very difficult to describe how it feels to see your reflection looking back at you, but to know it isn't you at all...

When this has happened to me, I wouldn't say I've felt frightened as such, but more 'freaked', as you say, and nervous. I have felt a shudder and got goosebumps and, like you, not been able to look back through being too scared--not scared as in terrified, but more nervous of what I'd see if I looked back.

It's an odd experience... I wish I could explain what it was but I just have no idea.

Did you ever see the trailer for the movie Mirrors or did you watch the movie recently? I know that movie scared the crap out of me and I couldn't walk past a mirror without getting shivers and feeling like I was being watched. Influences like media can subconsciously affect us at random periods in our lives IMO. I find that when ones at a heightened sense of spirituality our fears can really be realized more quickly.

That's just my 'non-spiritual' possible explanation for you to consider, I personally have never had an experience of looking in a mirror and not seeing myself, but that doesn't mean that I don't believe that others have seen someone other than themselves in a mirror. I find mirrors to be extremely.. i don't know the word to use... mystical? maybe? I feel like one could become lost in them, and I get the feeling sometimes like if I look too long I might see something that truly isn't there.

My advice is, if the reflection or other soul didn't seem to be threatening then maybe if you ever see them again, try to talk to them, see what happens. But if it really frightens you, then I would just leave it be, if it's not trying to harm you and not trying to 'speak' with you, then it's something you don't need to communicate with [IMO] maybe next time you see them, watch really closely, take in the details. Maybe your seeing your future self or someone who died in your family. Identifying the person in the reflect might remove the fears you have of that person. I like to believe that mirrors show the truth, they show what's really there, and maybe therefore, by seeing someone else in the mirror, you can be affirmed that there really are being other than who we can usually see, wandering this world and the others. If you think about it that way, it might become less scary as well =)

Hope I helped a little >_<

mirrors terrify me.. thats happened to me quite a few times started when i was about 7 and it didnt bother me at all but last year on my 20th birthday a few friends and i had went out to the scene of an accident the night before and visited a friend who had just died a month prior and we left the car on and doors open but my car and swear to you this happen theres 4witnesses my accellerated and if the emergency break wasnt on it wouldve freakin smashed us! cause it sounded like it floored and no one was in there anyway the next day was my birthday and i was alone at home and i wasnt really thinkin all to much of it but i was very uncomfterable she died in a car accident and ever since we were at the roadside it felt like someone was in the car but i was cleanin the house the next day and in the mirror there was 2people standing next me i looked away i looked back and they were still there but see it wasnt her thats what scared me.

when i was younger i would see in the mirror like i was posessed or something like it was me but wasnt me. or that i would catch a glimpse of something there but just a glimpse but no last year i distinctly saw two people in the mirror my hairs were standing up i was friggin scared, it hurt to breathe. i'm terrified of mirrors now though.

we are back again at my what I said, Mirrors are portals, never use a mirror (for magickal purpose) without a circle or protection) you never know what might come out of there.

this happens to me whenever i look in the mirror and focus on my face. i do it when its darker in my room, and i think it might be a trick of the mind, rather than a paranormal explanaton as you have to remember not everything has an unexplained explanation. although there may be another reason behind it....

No reason to feel like a freak. If you have doubts that it was threatening, then I don't see why you should be afraid. Read around these forums about the "shadow people" others have encountered and know you are not alone in this experience.

Usually my encounters with mirrors are in dreams. They were some of the most revealing dreams concerning my own hopes and fears. Usually I have "house dreams" when things get introspective, but the mirror dreams happen too. Now, I HAVE had some mirror dreams that freaked me out for good reason. There seems to be one recurring theme in particular in my family concerning mirrors and I had mine back in 2006.

I'd work from the premise that you don't have anything to fear. If you have feelings of "shadow people" from the corner of your eye as well, it could be possible that a spirit guide is attracted to you and gradually making himself/herself known to you. Just something to muse on... :D

Hmm... that actually gave me food for thought, although I realise it was aimed at xAlyssa. I do see someone/something out of the corner of my eye on a regular basis, but thought most people did and it was just the eyes playing tricks. Nevertheless, definitely something to consider.

Thank you!
