I was curious what kind of spells you could cast if you own no candles or herbs. My parents are kinda strict, and its hard to come across those kind of things. Furthermore, is there anything I should study before I attempt a spell? Research or anything?

Prayers and chanting. You really don't need anything for spellwork but a clear idea of what your after and the will to make it happen.

Prayer, chanting, energy magic. I would start, since you seem to be a beginner, with making energy balls and focusing on grounding and centering yourself. Learning to manipulate your own energy to manifest results is the very basis of this belief system you are interested in, so I'd suggest starting there.

Though I do have to say, it's amazing what you can do with the herbs found in the basic spice rack. Consider that if you feel that herbs would be helpful to your spellwork.

You don't really need herbs or candles for any spell. That's all just there to help you concentrate energy. All you really need is yourself. YOU make things happen, not the candles or the herbs or the altar tools. YOU are the one channeling and moving the energy, not the tools.

Meditation is your best friend when it comes to spellwork. Learn visualization techniques. Use whatever techniques work for you.

I sometimes cast a spell just by spending a few minutes visualising what I want and whispering a chant or incantation to myself very quietly. As long as I feel my energy moving and I can focus that energy properly and I'm not disturbed, it seems to work well for me.

.

Yes - enlarge your thinking. Your environment is a go-to warehouse. Imagine the uses of ordinary items. You might study the Elements - air, fire, water, earth - online & then observe each in Nature.

Build a starter kit
. Broom closet herbs: collect McDonald’s packets when you visit - salt purifies & protects, pepper banishes, sugar sweetens conditions. Salt’s a rock, pepper & sugar are plants. Maybe you already have them.
. We can use battery candles or strings of Yule lights when we want the ambiance.
. Collect stones from outdoors. Look for markings & that each is easy to hold. Water smoothed stones help healing, single-banded stones assist wishes, stones criss-crossed with lines aid path finding. Stones with holes are good luck. Raw Quartz is all purpose. Hold & stroke a stone while chanting a goal related rhyme to effect desired conditions.

FYI You can find free PDFs of "Wicca a Guide for Solitary Practitioners" on line; check media section for others.

Basic skills
. Teach yourself to focus: gaze at a candle flame (or a light’s reflection on water or a spoon) until it's all you're aware of. If you wool gather just return to the light. Practice daily.
. Practice feeling energy by holding your open palms facing each other & not touching. Breathe. Focus between your hands. Push power from the gut to your hands. You should feel a subtle, spongy resistance or temp. change. Use this technique to charge spells.
. Prepare sacred space - use a broom to physically sweep a circular area (or air-sweep with your flat hand) as you walk <~widdershins to cleanse, then point & walk deosil~> & project the circle.

Spell tips
. Use goal related materials associated by symbolism, color, smell, or element ( air, earth, water, fire)
. Water and quartz interchange with our consciousness; that means they’ll hold an intention.
. Use wording in positive phrases, present-tense (It-is & I-have), & don't say what you don't want.
. Know your goal - to attract or to repel something or to empower something; feel it in the belly & push.

Sigils - write the goal in a few positive words, cross out vowels (a,e,i,o,u,y) & duplicates of consonants. Scramble, reverse, invert & add curlicues to the remaining letters so they form an artsy hieroglyph. Enclose it in a circle & cut out the encircled glyph. Infuse it with intent. Then shred it or cut it up with scissors over the wastebasket; destroying it transforms it into the etheric realm & is a very old magic.

Stroking Stones can assist remote healing & influencing. Water smoothed stones can be used for healing because water heals; use single-banded stones for manifesting wishes; use stones criss-crossed with lines for path finding. Quartz is all purpose. Be prepared for an hour rocking forward-&-back (sitting on a swing is fun) as you stroke the stone while softly chanting. A very old healing chant: "Stone to stone, bone to bone, flesh to flesh, vein to vein, (name) is whole again." Keep stroking, rocking & chanting until you mentally fade out or have some other indication you've reached your maximum capacity & can stop. Wash stones in flowing water to clear them between spells. An all-purpose chant: “Earth, air, water, fire, work you now to my desire. For the good of everyone, so now it is done.”
