On Friday, June 27th there is a New Moon in the sign of Cancer. It is in the sign of Cancer that we come to digest our experiences and see how they make us feel. There is a waxing and waning nature to Cancer, seen as periods of withdrawal, followed by periods of expression. Anyone who is a Cancer or knows a Cancer can recognize this pattern. Sometimes it is seen as being moody, yet it is really just the Cancer’s need to crawl into their shell to come to understand how they are feeling. Incidentally, you don’t need to be a Cancer to experience this, everyone has the sign of Cancer in their chart somewhere. So there is some portion of our life that we go through this process.


Being the first Water Sign on the natural zodiac, Cancer is very subjectively oriented and most concerned with emotional security and the security and welfare of the clan. It’s ruling planet the Moon is connected to our gut level instincts. It is also related to our relationship with the nurturing parent. Historically the mother, yet these days as men and women become more in touch with both their masculine and feminine natures, the nurturing parent need not be the mother.


This New Moon in Cancer is especially important because Jupiter, the planet of expansion and understanding has been moving through Cancer since June of 2013. Whenever Jupiter is in a sign we come to learn something about that sign. Cancer being so instinctual and subjective, it is difficult to achieve perspective, yet that is just what Jupiter brings to the party. Jupiter’s year long journey through Cancer has given us the opportunity to look at our emotional reactions and responses. It has also allowed us to see just how our upbringing and the dynamics of our families of origin have effected the way we relate to life. This is seen in how we live our lives, the decisions we make, especially when we are feeling vulnerable. And Lord knows there has been enough tumult for everyone to feel vulnerable! It is also seen in how we relate to others.


During this time Jupiter in Cancer has been part of the Grand Cardinal Square which has acted as a doorway to initiation, A Cardinal t-square with transformational giants Pluto and Uranus, to push us to move forward and change the way relate to power. And Jupiter has been part of a 2 Grand Water Trines. One with Saturn and Neptune that was in orb for most of 2013 and one with Saturn and Chiron for most of 2014. All this activity has helped us to understand, heal and move forward.


So with this New Moon in Cancer we have a deeper, broader & more complete understanding of our emotions, our feelings & what drives us to react and respond the way we do. In other words we have the perspective to choose to respond differently if we so choose.


The Chart of the New Moon in Cancer has all the ingredients for forward motion, for healing the shadow & a challenge to relate to others in a different way. Jupiter in Cancer in this chart is square the nodes of the Moon. This creates a conundrum and a choice point. We are being asked to review our old instinctual actions, especially the way we act when we are feeling threatened, and to let go of them. The way forward is through cooperation and compromise. This takes a lot of courage and a deep sense of personal power.


We are working within a new paradigm, the rules have changed, the old ways no longer work. More and more people see the futility in the old and dream of a future where we work together to make this world a more verdant and peaceful place. We are tired of war, of sacrificing our children, of raping mother earth for short term gains for a very small number of individuals. The meek may very well inherit the earth, yet I doubt if the meek want to inherit a garbage dump!


Cancer is about family and we are all part of a greater family, the family of Man/Woman. And beyond that we are part of an earthly family that includes the plants, animals, fishes, minerals, & insects. Let’s do this together, our very survival depends on it!

The Moon in Gemini has support and challenges today. The support comes through our mental bodies. Good ideas abound, yet emotions are still tender and will take some adjustments. Feelings of insecurity and self loathing can come up for some. Loving self sounds easy but can be challenging in practice. The big story today is Mars and Uranus. Today they make the last of three oppositions that bring awareness of how we can be uniquely who we are especially in relationships. Projection can be a problem, so be careful not to get caught up in that trap. This opposition hearkens back to Christmas when the first opposition occurred, then again on April 23rd during the height of the Cardinal grand square. This last opposition is part of a cardinal t-square so the time to move forward on our awareness around relationship is here. If your relationships reflect the new you then they will continue, if they don't this is the time to release them and move on.

The Moon spends the start of the day in Gemini making an early morning conjunction to Mercury retrograde. Being able to communicate how we feel has been a hit and miss endeavor over the last few days. This conjunction can help to elucidate those feelings just in time for the Moon to shift signs. Once the Moon moves into Cancer talking ceases and feeling begins. Today is the dark of the Moon so any residual thoughts that seem to have no where to go need to be released. Let go of negative self-talk, any tendency to chase your own tail, and chatter just to fill up space. Silence is golden.

Today is the New Moon in Cancer. We are planting seeds for a new way of responding to life, one based on our recent transformations and our understanding of our emotional nature. Jupiter is square the Nodes in the New Moon chart, we are required to review the old ways of reacting to life, especially in situations where we felt insecure and at risk. How can we become more balanced, less reactive and take into consideration how our actions effect others. For those whose fall back position is to martyr themselves for their relationships it won't take long to realize that doesn't work either. Compromise doesn't mean giving up it means working together and that is the only way forward for us!

The Moon continues it's journey through Cancer, activating the Cardinal T-square and forming a Grand Cardinal square with Pluto, Uranus and Mars. Today is a testing day, to see just how well we have learned the lesson of being aware of our feelings and responding in a way that promotes our growth, instead of keeping us trapped in old patterns. It didn't take but a day to start applying what we've learned! Feel your feelings, understand them, and respond the best way you can.

The Moon shifts into self-expressive Leo. There is a lovely trine between The Sun in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces. This can foster a sense of loving understanding, compassion and forgiveness. Or we can re imprint ourselves with illusions around certain situations especially within our families. Best use this energy to love what is, instead of hoping for what is not.

The Leo Moon experiences a mixed bag of emotions today. There are flowing aspects as well as challenging aspects to the Leo Moon. Self-expression becomes a vehicle to find security, and we do get the opportunity to be unique and special today and work in a more progressive manner within our relationships, yet jealousy and insecurity can rear their ugly heads. Don't feed into the negative emotions today. Let them just dissolve on their own by not putting any energy in them.

The Moon in Leo makes a opportunistic sextile to Mercury in Gemini. At the time of the sextile Mercury is standing still awaiting the time when it can start to move forward once again. The sextile opens the lines of communication, so it is as if with this Moon/Mercury connection we can download much of what has been realized during the Mercury retrograde into our emotional bodies. In the early evening (East Coast Time) the Moon shifts into Virgo and we become interested in working to perfect something. With this downloaded information from Mercury we have lots of fodder for the grist mill. Over the next few days the Sun moves into alignment with the Cardinal t-square, forming yet another Grand Cardinal Square. It is time to move through the doorway once again, into a new level of being, well informed and ready to co-create!

The Virgo Moon is both supported and challenged today. We want nothing more than to make things work better when the Moon is in Virgo, yet the only real change we can create is self-change. There is support for self-improvement. The problems occur when we think we can change and improve others. Everyone in our lives is simply a mirror, so look to others to see what you haven't come to peace with in your own being and start the self improvement there. You will be amazed how people around you change, the moment you do!

The Moon continues it's journey through Virgo, stressing our need for self-improvement. Adjustments need to be made in order for us to put forth our best 'being-ness' Letting go of outworn ideas and thinking more progressively is needed. The biggest adjustment today is seen through an injunction between Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Gemini. This aspect hearkens back to last December when these two planets started their yearly cycle. At that time seeds were planted for a new relationship with power and self love. Mental adjustments need to be made, we are still working on the awareness that the initial conjunction seeded. Stay humble and loving to self and when the time comes to unveil your new relationship to power it will be exactly right.

The Moon slips into Libra early morning. With the Libra Moon we can foster emotional balance, or we can be all over the place. Balance is something Libra strives for, although it usually learns that lesson by first dabbling in the extremes. Extremity will no serve us today however as today the Sun in Cancer makes an opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. This is the halfway point in a cycle that began back on January 1st when Pluto and the Sun were conjoined in Capricorn. That started a new cycle illuminating the theme of power, who has it, who doesn't and how best to foster it.Today we see the fruits of that seed within our personal lives as well as in the collective. Emotional self-reliance goes a long way in fostering inner power, and true power, just like true love, comes from the inside out. Yet we still live in a world where those with the most resources hold the most power. A sometimes heartless fact. Now it is up to us to be aware of what is and start to create a different world order. This will take compromise, cooperation & tolerance. Those who hold all the cards depend on us fighting each other. Imagine their surprise if instead of fighting we start to work together. Let's surprise them!

The Libra Moon is challenged today to keep a sense of emotional balance as it makes a first 1/4 square to the Sun in Cancer. The Sun and Moon are part of a grand Cardinal Cross with Pluto Uranus and Mars. Back in April we were challenged to let go of the old ways of relating to our selves and others. This was a scary process, yet we moved through that time and now find ourselves on yet another threshold. To move forward we must keep our sense of balance, foster self acceptance & be willing to try out new ways of relating. Intention is of the utmost importance. Purity of heart is the only way forward. It will work...you'll see.

The Moon shifts from Libra to Scorpio at 3:33 PM EDT. Before the shift however, the Libra Moon makes a flowing trine to Mercury in Gemini, so although this is an early morning aspect there is flow to communicate and create. If you can't find anybody up early enough to talk to, take pen to paper. There is also a square between Jupiter in Cancer & the Libra Moon. We may experience guilt around doing things differently than we were taught by our families. Don't waste a minute on guilt, it is truly a waste of time. A life well lived is not simply the best revenge, it is also the greatest gift you can give to others. Once the Moon slides into Scorpio we become quite introspective. Take the time to be with your thoughts and feelings. We've been on a wild ride and it's not over yet. Rest up.

The Scorpio Moon makes numerous connections today, some supportive others challenging. Venus, the planet of our values, what we love and our relationships is also tied up in a complex network of connections. Issues with women can be complex today as we try to come to terms with what we are feeling, what we need to release & how we feel about all of it. It's not always easy to say goodbye, yet ultimately no one ever 'goes away'. We are always connected on levels most are not aware of. The heart knows the truth, even when reality appears to be showing a different face.

The Moon spends the majority of the day in deep feeling Scorpio. Today the Sun in Cancer makes a first quarter, crisis in action square to Uranus in Aries. We feel the need to act on new ideas seeded back on April 2nd when the Sun and Uranus conjoined in Aries. A trine of the Sun to Saturn allows us access to deep wells of healing understanding, which will come in handy as we move forward to an unknown and somewhat unsure future. We are always in the process of co-creation, making it conscious co-creation is the difference between repeating old patterns that bring us pain and suffering or creating the kind of world that resonates with your loving heart. Let love lead the way!
