I. How Past Life Information May Come to You
Be ready for anything when delving into past lives!
Past life info often comes in bits and pieces, and the details may be at times saddening, or shocking and vivid, at other times be peaceful, enlightening, and inspiring. Some things you’ll be proud you did, others will make you cringe and want to crawl under a rock.
Past life information comes to us in a plethora of ways:
Sometimes your past life info will just hit you out of the blue during the day in
visions, spontaneously. It will differ from a usual reverie due to a strong emotional reaction that will accompany the vision. You are
reliving this, not just objectively watching it, and you'll know the difference. You will
feel this, like it's happening to you all over again in real time. It can be a very jarring experience.
In one case I read, welts appeared on a woman's body during the regression session, where she had been injured before in a past life. When she came back to consciousness after the session ended, the welts had disappeared. Our thoughts are powerful enough to affect our bodies! It's like in the movie, "The Matrix," when people have that computer cable thingy hooked into the back of their heads, and they can't distinguish between the realities of their bodies and their minds.
You’ll see yourself, and though you might not look like you do now (you may be a different gender and/or race; our bodies are just "costumes" we put on and take off with each lifetime), you’ll just know it’s you, especially in the eyes, for some reason. Other times you’ll have
recurring dreams at night, which may or may not be past life info trying to get through.
Some
birthmarks or
chronic pains you have now are actually
wounds from previous lives. This is very, very common. If during a regression session you ask yourself where did this birthmark/pain originate, you'll be surprised at the answer.
Sometimes you will have a
sense of deja vu about a person, place, location, culture, etc. You'll "know" about him/her/it immediately, though you should not logically know anything at all.
II. The Many Benefits of Past Life Recall:
-Skills and Talents Reinforced/Life Purpose Clarified
-Traumas Healed
-Valuable Insight into Personal Relationships
In some past lives, you may have mastered certain skills and talents, and your subconscious mind (or some would say your "superconscious mind," others might say your Higher Self ...whatever) wants you to
“call forward†those energies and that knowledge, to use them in your life today. This greatly helps one to clarify one's true life purpose in this lifetime, and could save one a lot of time and grief otherwise spent "soul searching." We already have all the answers
within us right now.
In some past lives, you may have experienced significant, life-changing strife, much of which you never really sorted out when it occurred, which is why it may be popping up in your consciousness now,
so you could resolve the trauma in this life, and not carry it forward info future lives. An odd phobia you suffer from now may have originated in a past life.
The point is, with the realization of the
circumstances surrounding its origin through a “past life review†you can finally heal yourself of it.
You just need to realize the lesson attached to the trauma to begin its healing. The Earth Plane is essentially a school, and you will keep repeating certain "classes" (i.e., carrying forward the same past life issues), until you take responsibility and get the wherewithal to finally resolve them once and for all.
Past life information could even inform you about relationships with people you know now. You’ll begin to notice who the members of your “soul group†are, the people you keep reincarnating with to learn life lessons (your mother now may have been your child in a past life; your best friend now may have been a sibling in a past life, etc.).
This may give insight into the underlying dynamics behind why they’re in your life today.
Some people are here to
assist you in your life mission. They'll feel like "
old friends," even though you may have just met them, because they've assisted you in past lives before, or you've assisted them, or both.
Others, are here to challenge you, to
play "devil's advocate," so you'll transcend certain issues you have not successfully transcended yet. They'll feel like "
old enemies," though you don't even know them, because in many cases they actually
are old enemies. Yeah, these are definitely
not the funnest relationships, for sure. But I guarantee you'll learn
a lot from them, nevertheless. In fact, they'll be more insightful than your relationships with "old friends." The truth hurts, sometimes.
And you'll see others who are in between those extremes, across the spectrum.
III. Resources
Many books are available on the subject, like
Many Lives, Many Masters, by Dr. Brian Weiss, a leading regressionist and lecturer about past lives. It is a good introduction to past life phenomena.
If meditation is a struggle, try using a
“guided†meditation cd instead of going it alone. A guided cd is scripted and has a narrator talking you through step by step. Be aware of the pros and cons of this, however: The good part is that they are very helpful with keeping your thoughts from straying all over the place, and keeping them focused on the meditation at hand. The bad part is you have no one there to "pull your consciousness out" of a traumatizing past life recall if need be. And you have no one there to discuss it with afterward, so you could properly process your thoughts and feelings. It could leave you very troubled, and actually do more harm than good.
Therefore, I recommend that you have
a trusted friend nearby (friends are "resources," too) whenever you use a past life regression cd. Have your friend know beforehand to pause the cd if things get stressful, and say to you something like, "You are floating above the scene now," or "You are not in the scene now, you are in the present, in 2010 [whatever year], and merely looking back at the scene. You are not experiencing it now," ....things like that, until you calm down. And then be sure to discuss your feelings with him or her when you come back to conscious awareness, before attempting another session. Process it completely first. If necessary, come back to it in a few days or weeks. Or just let it be, and gather what you've learned from it, and move on. Don't force it. Let your inner guidance lead you on that.
Dr. Weiss has also created several
regression cds. If you get a chance, attend one of his
workshops to learn more about the subject. You will go through exercises to help you learn self-hypnosis, as well as do fun and interesting exercises with a partner.
There are
certified hypnotherapists who have trained in regressing people through their past lives. If your budget allows it, this would be an excellent option as well. The benefit of this is you’ll have some one-on-one time to talk with someone about the experience, as opposed to just meditating alone. This helps with sorting out and understanding what you experienced. But try to get a word-of-mouth referral before making an appointment with anyone, because as with anything else, quality of service varies.
Finally, for a free tarot, oracle or other psychic reading visit the Readings forum here, where
other members could do a reading for you to explore your past life questions. It's not as helpful as discovering your own past life memories yourself, but it should be fun and interesting to see what others may come up with.
IV. Do Your Homework!
Whatever methods you use, work at relating what you saw to your life now, and then
work at coming up with a doable gameplan that brings balance and healing to your life, utilizing the insight you gained from your regression sessions. Do not expect the answers to just get handed to you on a platter. These are
actual lives were're talking about, real issues of the real people you were. Respect those people. Like anyone else, they can be complicated and understanding them could take time. By respecting them, you are, of course, respecting yourself.
Don't expect someone else --a psychic, a hypnotherapist, or a best friend, to come up with the answers for you. Don't give your inner power away to someone else, as you are in the driver's seat at all times for obtaining and using your past life information.
Keep a
past life journal to write down anything that comes to you, whether through your visions and dreams, or through self- or assisted hypnosis sessions, or guided meditations, etc. After a while, you
will start to see insightful patterns in the past lives you’ve lived as they relate to your current life now. You’ll see where many issues, challenges and strengths originated. All in all, it is an enlightening experience. But as with anything worthwhile, it takes time and patience to achieve results. There are no shortcuts.
For fun, why not try a
past life tarot reading on yourself (non-tarot oracle cards work too). Maybe you’ll come up with something. Pick a time when you’ll have at least one hour of uninterrupted time. Before the reading, take a bath with some candles and meditate to get yourself in a relaxed and open state of consciousness. This will open up your intuitive abilities. Don't attempt it when you're stressed out. It won't work. Write down some questions you hope to have answered through the past life regression, to further focus the session.
Feel free to share whatever comes up in the upcoming months as you pursue this, and of course ask any further questions you have.
