Humming and flute-like sounds

Sorry for posting back-to-back but one of the reasons I join this forum is to gain understanding about these events.

This happened couple months back. I was asleep alone in my bedroom when I was suddenly awakened. I could hear a lady's voice humming a slow song in the wee hours of the morning, at around 4 am. It was really quiet out in the streets and although the humming wasn't particularly loud, I could hear it crisp and clear. I tried thinking logically and wondered who would hum at this hour and how can I hear someone humming if they were inside their own concrete houses? It could only happen when the person humming was on the streets but who would do that?

The humming went on and on and I was spooked to my bones. It was accompanied by strange, distant flute sounds. But the main sound was the lady humming. It wasn't my first time hearing it, before this I used to hear the humming too but it was much more sadder and melancholic. Many months had passed and I had not heard it. And now it was back.

I felt cold, my hair stand on its end and I started having cold sweats all the while frozen in bed, petrified but unable to do anything. I waited for the humming to stop and it eventually stopped at around 6/7 am and I slept after that.

The next morning, I tried googling to find out what it was and told a few online friends. They reminded me that it was Friday, the 13th. Not sure how that correlates with this.

Backstory: My neighbour is a staunch Catholic and his wife could speak in tongues. While I am not Christian myself, I wonder if there is any event in Christianity or any other religions where you need to hum at 4 am in the morning as part of prayer or anything. Please help me understand this.

I'd say you need to target where the sound is coming from. Are you hearing it in the minds "ear" - Clairaudic or remotaudic. or are you hearing it as a physical sensation within your immediate environment. If in your environment, exactly where.

Vibrations of certain frequencies do carry through the ground & buildings. In my wood and concrete house, 2 blocks from the expressway, whenever a certain sized semi-truck downshifts approaching the "S" curve 1/2 a mile away, the pans stored inside my stove vibrate loudly, and glass bottles in the refrigerator rattle. It's changed how I store things. I also feel the truck vibes in my sinus bones. The bones of the face do reproduce sound vibration. Beethoven would hold a metal tube in his mouth with one end pressed against the piano, and he could "hear" his musical compositions this way, bypassing his deafness.

As far as I know, speaking in tongues can be done any time, day or night. It can sound rhythmic but often monotone. In the convent, we got up at 4:30 AM for private devotions. Why any reasonable lay person would choose to do so boggles the mind, but there are Oblates who make that choice.

In the event it's not a physical cause, had you tried speaking out loud when the humming occurs and respectfully asking the singer to hold it down? Or what the heck, join in? :mrgreen: I've been told that my idea of harmony is so off key it would shut down a choir of angels. I pass this along for consideration. Send it back, in spades. :wink:

@planewalker,
I hear it, my ears hear it. Please don't convince me I made it up in my mind. If you are suggesting hallucinations and delusions, it is not. I have had a healthy mental health. The sound sounds like it comes from the street or from a direct neighbour, if she hums by the window.

@spirittalker,
I don't think it is the bones in my face humming a tune, but thanks for sharing that. LOL. I have not tried speaking to the singer, I was too afraid for it to 'manifest' beside me or something. My poor heart can't take that.

Not dillussional, but differently sensed. The mind at the end is where we sense it. The sound is made at the subject. It's how it got from one place to the other. If I'm ripping my eardrums to pieces listening to a Blue Oyster Cult Album the band isn't playing it for me but I can still get bl00d running onto my shoulderblades if I turn it up enough.

No, no. I am sure I definitely hear it and my father heard it once too. :)
