Told I Should Practice Magic...Now What Do I Do?

Postby Jb185 » Mon Mar 21, 2016 9:43 am

Hi all,
Ok I want to first start off by saying hello to everyone.

So I just wanted to say that I was raised Christian and was struggling to find my place in the religion till now and I'm 25. The problem is I never felt as though I fit in I never felt what others felt and I even tried to force myself to do as it said in the bible to no avail. Recently I've started to search for something that I feel is right.

Now this is my belief. I do believe that there is a god that created us and is still intertwined in our fates and cares for us. I do believe in both evil and good spirits that can make contact with us or can be contacted. As far as afterlife I'm unsure if there's a heaven or reincarnation( I have had very realistic dreams that are more like memories of me doing random things) I also believe in magic( not Harry Potter style) and I've always felt drawn to it since birth.

Now for what turned me onto this now is i was told by a random person in a store that I was in fact a natural born witch and that I had special abilities. That I should look into Wicca/peganism but either way I should practice magic. He wore a suit/tie and was older looked more like a preacher. I don't know what special abilities he could have been speaking of though. The only thing I could imagine is if he was talking about psychic abilities and then the only thing I could have noticed was I sometimes get the sensation that I'm not alone even when I am for sure I'm alone but that's probably just my imagination. Anyway I researched witches and discovered I do have a lot in common with what I read.

So here I am and am wondering what I should do next. Does what I mentioned here sound far fetched or out there lol. This is far different than what I grew up with.

Hey there, I know you already gave us a bit of background info, but I can promise that the mods will ask you to go to the new member post up top and introduce yourself... We like being familiar with new faces :)

Aside from that, what should you do next? I would suggest you read and reflect a good bit, it will help you find your path. Everyone here practices differently, so you will get many different answers to all of your questions. None are wrong, just different :) Read, ask questions, journal... your path will come to you in no time.

What Smogie said. ;)

You can practice as you like. You don't have to "be" anything or follow any particular path. Just follow your interests and your heart.

As a person who is "sensitive" I can tell/feel when I am around somebody who also has ability. This may be what this person was picking up on. Though I would never tell somebody what they "should be". This person may simply have been suggesting you might like to do some reading and discovery. That doesn't mean you won't blend it with your already present beliefs....or even choose to ignore it. Your call.

Something similar happened to me. My wife and I were told by a woman in a coffee shop that she could sense we were searching for something, and she said we were really strong and that we should practice magic together. She said specifically, "You two should cast spells, together, they would be very powerful".

We laughed about it for a long time, and then events led me to my current understanding and I ended up here attempting to learn and explore in a real world sense and not just in a theoretical and historical context.

So here is the best advice I have as someone who is still very much a baby to this religion in practice.

Learn what the word means in it's most involved form. Then try to do it. Do it for a year and a day. By then, you'll know what you need to know, and you'll truly understand, how much you don't actually know, and then you will have a general understanding of where to go next.

I'm not saying, ignore everything and leave these forums for a year and a day. Just saying, while reading and posting and learning and reading, give yourself time. You don't have to work it all out in a week, or a month, or a year.

Enjoy the journey, have fun, and try not to take it too seriously. It's not there is a standardized test waiting for you about this stuff.

Take it slow. Do you feel it is time for you to practice magick?

What you have said isn't far fetched at all. You must have felt some link to what the person told you or you wouldn't have responded to it, so you just need to explore and find out what things you most want to know. Just a suggestion, try one subject every few months,

Journal and take notes along the way as a reference. Even a sentence or two can jog the old bean later and give an ah-ha worth waiting for. Start with a cheap spiral bound notebook and a pen you can chew on. Then you can be free to blot, scratch out, misspell and doodle to capture your thinking. You've always been drawn to magic, you say. So write down why. Be as honest as you can, nobody's looking. what attracts you? What puts you off? what do you want to know about magic? That will tell you where to look, then just follow your nose.

if you want spiritual development look into meditation. If you're interested in the religious aspect then read up on rituals. Often a circle rite covers most needs. If the craft part draws you then read about spell crafting - not just what, but why & how. (Ann Moura's Green Magic is one I'd suggest.)

You've already made a start letting us know what you believe. So write down in your journal why you believe as you do, just to make yourself aware. Nothing, is more interesting to ourselves than what we are thinking.
