Rather old questionnaire that's still interesting :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How long have you been a witch? I self dedicated in June 1993.
How did you decide that Wicca was your calling? I'm not strictly Wiccan but witchcraft felt natural.
What intrigued you about the witch aspect of Wicca? The Wican ritual Circle structure provided a starting point for exploring teluric Earth-energies which was the only attraction.
How long have you been practicing Wicca? In March 1993 I'd read "Wicca for the Solitary Practioner by S.Cunningham, which connected the dots as I'd been a "practicing" trance-medium 20 years earlier.
How has Wicca affected your life? Reading, experimenting & learning about shamanistic witchcraft has made sense of many experiences since preschool age & seems to naturally continue the learning path.
What are today's witches like compared to 50 years ago? Early public Crafting concentrated on coven-based practice; after the 1990's solitaire Craft became accepted & a heap more info became publicly available.
Could you explain how you invite in the Elements? Ground, center, commune, verbally call.
What does magic mean to you? Creating positive change.
How does your family or community feel about your preference? They couldn't care less.
Are you in a coven? No.
How long have you been with this coven and how long ago did it form? N/A
What activities can you explain that take place during worship? The grace of communing at the higher soul level with the All-One.
What are the differences between a good witch and a bad witch? Good ones succeed without greed. I don't think the "witch force" differentiates.
Do you have a daily ritual that you do without fail? Light a gratitude candle & run the beads.
What symbols have the most significance to you and why? In my living room I have a framed copy of Apollo 8's photo of Earth-rise over the Lunar horizon because getting there was an accomplished hope of Humanity; rainbows bcs I like colors.
Quite old, still quite interesting.
How long have you been a witch?
- Since 2008.
How did you decide that Wicca was your calling?
- After my Initiation (big I) into the mysteries fundamentally changed my life. I was pushed from behind.
What intrigued you about the witch aspect of Wicca?
- Being informed by the natural world. Standing on the threshold of serendipity.
How long have you been practicing Wicca?
- Since 2008 (my 'year and a day').
How has Wicca affected your life?
- A transformative experience - in too many ways to simply list. Many tough places, many joyous ones. Every step worth taking.
What are today's witches like compared to 50 years ago?
- From book reading? (I'm in my 40's). We are possibly less insecure in the legitimacy of our calling then they were. But then 'Witches' is as broad a term as the sea. These days we seem more inclusive but less decisive. Each age is equally prone to the vissicutudes and absurdities of its mother age.
Could you explain how you invite in the Elements?
- In circle work? I stand facing the elements direction holding its chosen candle or cooresponding item before me and visualise all the coorespondants I have chosen and attributed within a light trance 'coming into alignment'. This builds until I usually visualise myself swept up within the element entire.
What does magic mean to you?
- Its something I don't often care to define, certainly not attempt to spell :). You know when you've got it and can channel it - you know when you can't. It's a connection. Awen. A flowing spirit.
How does your family or community feel about your preference?
- Mostly doesn't come up in discussion except when people come seeking advice. However I shoo away serious enquiries of 'what's it all about' with a list of books - if they can't be bothered to try and learn and at least attempt to find some answers for themselves, I certainly can't be bothered to try and teach my particular view from my particular perch. Fortunately I live in a very pagan-centric area anyway. However people matter - their practices less so.
Are you in a coven?
- Nope though I have several pagan colleagues, friends and aquantancies, some of whom are within closed circles. Its not for me, I'm more effective with less 'interference' being both highly independant and able to harness a powerful imagination (and then drop it like a hot rock).
How long have you been with this coven and how long ago did it form?
- As above.
What activities can you explain that take place during worship?
- Ultimately I recognise a deeper and genuine connection to the world around me in the way an artist recognises 'golden hour' and its transformative effect. I find room to allow a creative energy rise and guide me. At the threshold I invite the world it as it in turn invites me. Its really quite wonderful really.
What are the differences between a good witch and a bad witch?
- Hmm is this like these 'good people' and 'bad people' I've heard about? A good witch recognises we don't really live in a world of hard definition, and extremes are illusions. They would hopefully endeavour to strike a balance between subjectivity and objectivity, especially within their own head and their own heart. A good witch can 'twist' and could discuss and redefine that question a dozen different ways before even thinking about answering it.
Bottom line? A good witch is an effective witch who holds this golden motto at the core of their practice; whatever you do - "Does it work?"
Do you have a daily ritual that you do without fail?
- Without fail? I have regular practices but not 'without fail'... Some days the Witch just ain't feeling it. When it's those days, the smart witch, doesn't even try to.
What symbols have the most significance to you and why?
- The spiral, the mobius loop, the ankh, the circle, the hexagram and the pentagram - all being rough diagrams alluding to the nature of the universe.
The green man - for recognising the importance, value and connection of the individual to the infinite.
The inverted or feminine triquetra (chalice not sword), representative of celtic paganism and as a differential to celtic Christianity (not holy trinity but triple goddess).
