The Witch of Howling Creek's Book of Shadows

If you would prefer not to keep a physical Book of Shadows in your home for privacy reasons, you can collect the spells, rituals, correspondences, etc. that you would like to keep for future use and store them here. Start your own thread named "Name's Book of Shadows" and put your information in there, using as many posts as you need to. It's not private, but at least your parents won't see it. You can also get ideas from other people's Books of Shadows.

This is the ritual and blessing I did for Lammas this year:

Sit loosely clothed in the garden or by a window looking out at it.
Light a white, yellow or gold candle. Meditate on the flame, focusing on both the blessings in your life and the sacrifices you need to or should make.
When you are finished meditating, take a bite of bread and a sip of tea, alternating until gone.
Blow out the candle.
Blessed Be

First Harvest Garden Blessing - This blessing is to help my garden get a little bit of oomph - late cold snaps really stunted it this year - but it could easily be adjusted for just general prosperity.

Handwrite a blessing for continued prosperity and positive abundance. Lay a snipped leaf from the garden to represent all the plants and a piece of dried corn husk to represent abundance on the blessing and tie the bundle with a piece of twine. Burn the bundle and scatter the ashes in the garden.

The blessing I wrote (I like to rhyme when I write a spell or blessing because it makes it easier to remember, as repeating the words after the spell is finished helps reinforce it):

Abundant harvest
Abundant fall
Take this leaf for them all
Demeter, growth and fruits
Corn to give this garden a boost.

You can also find this ritual with a bit more explanation on my blog! :)

Moonwater is a simple Pagan holy water imbued with the energy of the full or new moon. It is great for many spells, for ritual drink on full moons or Sabbats, or just for a little extra goddess energy.

Items Needed:
Glass bottle with closing lid
Sage or other cleansing herb
Natural water

Recipe:
- Rub bottle with sage to bless and cleanse.
- Fill with natural water as from a stream, river, creek, natural well or spring, or rain. (Note: If you plan to consume this water, you will want to boil it before leaving in the moonlight so as to remove any toxins.)
- Place the bottle outside on a full or new moon, not letting the sun touch it.
- Clearly label the bottle so you know it is not just plain water.
- Consume for energy or store for spells.

A couple of witchy ways to protect yourself while traveling:

Roman Fortuna Redux Charm Bag

Mix chamomile heads and oak leaves in a sachet, asking the Roman goddess Fortuna Redux (the aspect of the goddess of good fortune associated with travel) for protection and a watchful eye. Hang the charm bag from your rear view mirror, tuck it into your carry-on luggage or simply carry in your purse. For a little extra oomph, add Earl Grey bergamot tea leaves, comfrey, a fresh sprig of mugwort, and/or quince seeds, all known for lending their protection while traveling.

Moonstone Talisman or Amulet

Moonstone is associated with good luck and protection on travels. Anoint and purify a piece with moonwater or saltwater, then bless it specifically for whoever will be using it. If it is not already, make it into a piece of jewelry such as a pendant or ring so it is easy to keep on at all times. This makes a great gift for someone leaving on a trip!

Bright Blessings Autumn Charm Bag

You Will Need:

Paper
Pen or pencil
Sachet
An assortment of the following – small cinnamon sticks, whole allspice, pine needles, sunflower seeds or petals, dried apple, orange peel, whole nutmeg

Handwrite at least five blessings in your life. Tear it into small pieces and place in a sachet with your choice of the above blessing and prosperity related items. Tuck the sachet someplace safe to always keep the blessings close and to attract others.
