Stinging Nettle Recipes Anyone?

Postby Blu-Luna » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:13 am

Hi, I was wondering if any-one knows any good stinging nettle recipes for the Craft and any info on it's uses as I have some growing in my garden. I am drinking tea with it for the first time today! It is very good and I am curious to find other uses and history on this very painful but helpful herb! Thanks so much!

Don't you mean stinging nettle?
They are good steamed. Wear cloves when picking.

Hi Blu Luna,

I recently harvested some stinging nettle from my own garden area while weeding it a few days ago. My father found it, and said this is a weed but it's stinging nettle. We should leave this right? I asked why, he said, that it was a nettle, and I came to the conclusion I could use it. I asked him, I could use it then? He told me, you could probably do something with this.

There is a lot you can do with stinging nettle.

I had found a website you may find helpful Blu-Luna that lists some of the attributes and purposes for stinging nettle. I found the site while looking into its uses, after I had found one nettle plant close to my garden while weeding.

Here is the link: http://www.witchipedia.com/herb:stinging-nettle

Hope you find this helpful.

I was reading one of Susan Weeds books and in it she talked about gathering the plant. She said you will not get stung if you grab the plant "matter of factually" it will not sting. I was sitting at a lake once and observed this plant and thought ok, I'm gonna grab it matter of factually and see what happens. Wow, to my surprise it did not sting me, then when I tried again I got a little scared and backed off slightly just before contact and OUCH...got all stung up.
I believe the sting may help to alleviate arthritis but I 'm not sure if it is trough being stung or by drinking tea.

Firebridflys,

The website I gave says with arthritis, the traditional method was to slap oneself in the area the arthritis is bothering a person. Meaning with arthritis the traditional method is to sting yourself intent-fully with the plant. It makes sense as the stingers have properties chemically within for pain- pain relief.

That is actually why I collected some of the plant. For relief of muscle aches. Right now, I have the plant drying, but I've left the stingers on, and have not cut the plant.

Considering perhaps making a tool with some of the plant attached, for healing purposes.

Wanted to help answer your question, for arthritis the remedy was to sting oneself. Not a tea.

Blessed be.

ouch, that's what I was afraid of. Same with bee stings, it helps arthritis if you sting where you need the relief.

Hi blu luna, do not know if you are still around, but wanted to suggest if you like green tea, perhaps a green tea and nettle combination is up your alley.

I've tried this combination recently and have found it, quite alright. Pleasant enough.

Just a thought.

Sevensons it is the sting chemicals which help with allergic reactions, according to the link I gave you'd want to freeze dry the nettle as freeze drying is said to retain the stings chemicals- for use with allergies.

This is all according to the link however, I am not certain how correct or accurate it is.

Freeze drying it first before preparing a tea for allergies may be necessary.

I'd encourage you to read up a bit more on this, if you'd like to use nettle along with allergy alleviation.

Hope that helped.
