Social anxiety

Postby Traumwandlerin » Mon Aug 16, 2010 12:41 am

So I already talked about this somewhere else, but I feel like it would be nice to enhance the effect of my meditation with taking a regular sip from some special potion. But really, I never worked with potions, but now I feel like the right time :)

So, any ideas, what could you recomment? My goal is feeling comfortable and relaxed among others and to seek out nice social experiences.

I am taking great steps in meditation, but you know, I just want to take another step.

I would use ths potion in a very small evening ritual (me relaxing, look out the window at the sunset and be happy how nice the day was, shortly thinking about my achievements and my goals). One sip every evening would be enough, so it is allowed to contain alcohol. It would be nice if the potion won't rotten over the months and needn't be cool all the time. Since I want to place it on my altar, to see it many times and can shortly think about how great the potion works and how great meditating works and how I am growing more and more into the person I want to be.

So thanks for any advices there.

Well, I think a great idea would be to make a tincture of lavender, and place a few drops of it in a bottle of water in the morning, while repeating an affirmation that you will be calm in any social setting.

I don't know if you know what a tincture is, so if you need to know, I'll post it if you wish.

I have pure lavender oil here. I use it for skin burns and into cosmetics. But I don't know about the use in psychological or energetic stuff, culd you perhaps tell me more or provide a link? This would be nice :) I only know levender is calming me down, when I smell it. It's kind of relaxing but I don't know if it's socializing ;)

Could I use this oil? I don't know it wouldn't mix with water of course. I could mix it with alcohol though, but are there other possibilities? Cause I really liked the idea to drink it just after I woke up with greeting the morning sun.

So, but of course I don't know what a tincture is or how to do one ^^And the effects of lavender. I'm really just a noob in this area. But potion, this just sounds so right at the moment.

Sorry, I accidentally posted that I don't know what a tincture is. I meant to write *if*

A tincture is pure plant matter that is soaked in an alcohol thats over 70 proof. The best alcohol that you don't have to special order would be Bacardi 151. soak the plant matter in the alcohol for a day, or until the alcohol is highly pigmented. Strain it and bottle it. Thats all there is to a tincture.
These are some herbs that are supposed to help calm anxiety:
Chamomile
Catnip
Lemon balm
Valerian

You can make a mix of them or just use one. The tincture can be diluted in water, so you can easily add it to drinks without getting drunk :)

Ah, thanks. Yeah, getting hands on alcohol isn't any problem in my area, you can just go into the german aquivalent for a drugstore and by it like anything else.

I would like to add herbs which aren't just for relaxation. But probably something which lights the mood to enjoy being with others or just feed your need and wish to connect with others. Also probably a herb which help you to let you feel like a whole and worthy person, cause my problem in this social anxiety is that I stop feeling like a whole person (like only coworker) and start being afraid of getting judged since inside me the believe was planted that I am totally wothless and anybody must hate me, when they see the real me.

So maybe you have some suggestion on that? Or probably a link, so I can read it up so you don't have as much work. Iw ould ask though, if I got anything correct and won't poison myself ;)

I looked it up, I have essential lavender oil (100%) here. Could I use this too?

On the other, I will look them up, I know chamomille, but I only have this as herb right now, I could guess about catnip, and probabl about valerian ^^ translation is coming. But know I have to go to sleep.

Many thanks for the help so far :)

Lavander essential should work fine.

Heres a question that was posted on yahoo, there are many good answers, if you open the more answers tab.

the standard Russian, Lithuanian, and Polish vodkas are 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof). I would suggest a good Russian vodka because it is the best. :D

Now I had time to look them up :)

Lime balm was also an on my probably list, just didn't know what it were. Catnip and Valerian go into the same area of just calming down, when nervous and stressed, which somehow isn't the thing I need.

I would probably use lime balm and lavender for all I read to know. They are mood enhancer while also relaxing, so simply just feel a bit lighter. Also I'm looking for a warm and friendly feeling and came across cardamom(which should work against fears while raising self-esteem and faith)and coriander (which should enhance friendship due to stabilize and harmonize relationsships).

Probably I would also use some herb which enhance a friendly feeling toward other people, like rose or jasmin or vanille.

So I could use a vanille liquor base (30% alcohol) in which I drop lime balm and lavender (both as dried herbs) and coriander and cardamom as spice. Let that in the sun for a few days and then add rose water so it would not be that alcoholic?

What do you think people? Would this be a nice and warm mixture to let me feel more secure and more friendly toward other people? Can I make my potion that way or wouldn't it work out for some reason? Are dried herbs and spices ok? Any ideas on which ratio I should mix those, so it would be working and tasty at the same time? ;)

Dried herbs and spices are what you want to put into a tincture, if their fresh, they'll begin to smell horrible. That sounds like an excellent mixture, diluting it in some rose water sounds great.

As for ratio, you don't want to put much of the herbs that are less of what you want. Be sure that the herbs that you put the most of are the herbs that you want to recieve the most benefit from.

And the information about the herbs and spices are correct? Since I just found them on some websites but don't know if those were valid information.

And how much would be to much (and probably not drinkable anymore) und how much is to less? Or aren't their any guidelines? So like, I put an ounze of cardamon in only a pint of liquid would be too much for certain, wouldn't it?

Yeah, an ounce of cardamon would be too much. The herbal information is correct, at least to my knowledge.

Heres what I would place in the alcohol:
4 tablespoons cardamon
4 tablespoons coriander
3 drops of lavender essential oil (or 2 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons lime balm

afterward you can add as much rose water that you feel neccessary. you could mix a shot of the alcohol into a large bottle of water with some of the rose water added, also. I say experiment with it, find what works best for you.

I'm so glad I got the right information :)

And I'm glad about how much would be appropiate :) Otherwise I would hear myself saying "A little bit more to be at the safe side" ;)

Oh no! I've overdone with the lavender essence ^^ Glad, I tried to make one example potion with just the spice, lavender and the vanilla liquor. One half drop is waaaaaay to much for such a small cup (about a double shot). It's drinkable but not really tasty or harmonic. And the spices are way to less. Or do they get a more intense taste after a few days?

(I miss an edit button)

I just had a thoguht. Since I use a lot of coriander and cardamon in cooking, should I put a bit more into the potion than I would normally? Since I'm already used to it?

And in addition, I just realized the perfect ritual to include this potion. When everthing's ready I will post the potion and the ritual so everybody can use it :)

Well since you already use a lot of it, Yes, you should probably double up! After a few days of soaking, it does take on more of the flavour. the higher the proof of the alcohol, the more of the essence it will withdraw, also. The vanilla might mask the other flavours.
