Reading Candle flame

Postby Iamcris » Thu Oct 06, 2016 7:02 pm

Hello all, during a spell the candle produced black smoke then went out and took a while to relight. When it finally lit the smoke went grey then white and the flame was strong. I need help interpreting please.

My first, mundane thought is to ask if the candle was wet, which might produce exactly the things you describe. If not a wet candle, move on.

A failing candle can mean the "spirits" do not support the goal as stated, so suggests you might rethink the objective and reword it. And you didn't get the message and relit the candle.

A heavily smoking, but recovered flame suggests strong opposition and resistance from someone or somewhere. It recovered so shows the energy was able to push through the resistance.

So this is a spell that might not turn out the way you intended because the original wording, or intent may have been ambiguous or counter-productive. You may not have known the whole story before casting.

Or the candle was wet.

That's my take on it.

My first thought was a spirit trying to communicate by smoke signal. That could be my stress talking, or it could be an indication of a misspent youth. If it happens again, take notes and let us know.

How to Do Ceromancy

I find ceromancy to be akin to Rorschach psychological
tests. There isn't a right or wrong answer. There is only
your interpretation of what you see. It is merely an ex-
ploration. To me, that's what any divination essentially
amounts to...an exploration.

Things to Ask Yourself

I think the best interpreting help is when people encourage you to have confidence in using your intuitive tools, not theirs. In logic-based Western society, we are conditioned to search for answers outside of ourselves --to look in the back of a textbook, or in a dictionary, or to call a friend, or to Google for it (which is actually a verb now, lol). Those are left-brain kinds of "help."

But magic is more a right brain activity. It has its own logic, its own physics. One has to respect and trust these things, as well. So, in my opinion, proper right-brain-style "help" would be to help you search for answers inside yourself, to trust your own thoughts, as well as bodily sensations and emotional feelings. These are your equipment, just as valuable if not moreso than a textbook answer page, or a dictionary definition, or your friend's opinion, or a Google search engine. This is the approach I take in the following response.

Take some time to meditate for about 10 minutes, to ground and center yourself, then ask:

1. What was the first thought that came to you when you experienced the candle doing these things? Don't edit or try to make the thought have logic. Don't make it into what you want it to be. What were the actual thoughts you had, what crossed your mind at that moment?
2. Were there images too, and if so, what were they?
3. What were the actual sensations you felt in your body --calmness, activeness, giddiness, heaviness, chills, etc.?
4. What were the emotions you experienced at that moment --fear, joy, anger, sadness, wonderment, etc.?

Consider the candle reading to be like a spiritual Rorschach test. And maybe it will help you to have a notebook present next time, to write these things down and help you focus.

These are important things to know, because collectively these ARE the reading itself.

Tying It All Together

I think any magical practices or divination serves as a path back to ourselves. And I see more and more, here on this message board especially, that that place is a place to which so many people are extremely resistant to go, especially "love spell" requesters. But, that is and will always be exactly where the truth is! I find there are some truths we like to face, and others we don't (and won't).

Often, people just don't like to "feel," especially any feeling of discomfort. We have a lot of gadgets in Western culture that distract us so we don't have to feel. And many people seem to associate discomfort with pain, and pain with "bad." But discomfort is merely a message to us, like any other sensation is. It is just part of our guidance system, our equipment, a head's up that perhaps something needs to change, that's all. If my leg is in pins and needles, the discomfort just means my circulation has been blocked and I need to adjust how I'm sitting. The discomfort itself isn't evil or bad.

Any way, consider all of the questions I listed above as they relate to whatever your spell was about (or whatever question the candle divination was supposed to answer, called the query)...that is the key: The candle's behavior, its message to you, ties into whatever the theme of the spell or query is. No one can tell you what the candle's behavior means if no one knows what the spell was about, its theme. I'm not asking for that information, you don't have to disclose it. I'm just saying we readers of your post don't have full information, so can't give full interpretations, and would only be stabbing in the dark.

You do have that information, however. So it is up to you to arrive at the reading interpretation. To do so, tie together:
1. What the candle was doing (which you described in your first post), with...
2. Your thoughts, sensations and emotions when you saw the candle doing these things (which you must take some time and think about), with...
3. The theme/purpose of your candle spell or candle divination query (which only you know)

Do this, and you will have your reading.

Hope this helps.

Kassandra, you are an excellent teacher. I gave the OP a fish. You showed him how to fish. Thank you for the lesson.

Thanks, at first I wanted to go along with my interpretation and it did seem to make sense but I still am learning and thought maybe there's a set meaning in certain things. Thank you all for your help.

Hello all! I had a candle burning and the tip of the wick looked like a flower. When I snuffed the candle out the wick looked like a cross. Any insight would be appreciated
