A question about ideal Moon times

Postby Willow Green » Mon Oct 07, 2019 2:03 pm

Hello all,
This is my first ever post so I’m really hoping I put it in the right place.
I’m still considerably new to Wicca, I’ve so far only been studying it for about five months or so, so any advice would be great!
My question is as follows: I would like to perform a banishing spell (to help rid myself of an unwanted habit.) I have read all about Moon phases and when is the ideal time to perform different types of magic, and it does make a lot of sense. It is my understanding that the spell I would like to do would be best performed under the waning Moon. As I’m sure you’re aware we are currently in the waxing phase. How vital is it that I wait until the waning phase? I know it’s only a week or so away, but this habit is causing me serious physical discomfort (rest assured I am also working with a doctor to help it,) and I strongly believe performing this spell will help me at least a little.
Many thanks in advance,
Willow

Merry meet Willow Green,

first of all, Willow is my favourite tree and I love UK so I hope you stay here. Many new members leave after few posts because sometimes it takes time to get conversations going and it feels dull when you post 3 posts with no reaction. So stay around.

Being aware of the mood in the air is always a good thing. I just bought a black currant wine to honour the darker phase of the year we are slowly sinking into, so I'm a bit drunk, forgive me the quality of my post which would have otherwise been measured more carefully. Still I wanted to write the info above in time.

I've been asking myself your question many times. Every day we go to toilet and every day we dump garbage. I had fabulous result with a black candle designed to destroy evil on Saturday waxing moon. Some neighbours over the wall didn't like me so I made a small piece of paper with inscription something like "hostility from neighbours" and burned it in that flame. The moment I did that terrible hassles started among them in their own house. What they sent was returned to them and stayed there. You can write "addiction to..." and burn it in such candle any Saturday. Although next one is the full moon which I haven't tried so I can't give you any 100% verified answer. Full Moon Saturday might actually be a glorious combination of 'completion' and 'getting rid of'.

If you grow yourself some resiliency you don't need to feed false prophets and charlatans such as official doctors.
It is a bit hypocritical from me since I've never been fully addicted to anything, but I cut the usage of alcohol, tobacco, porn and whatever else drastically by increasing psychic awareness. You simply don't do things that cause you pain and on subtler levels you can't help but feel the pain these things deliver (if they are of low quality or in excess).

If you strongly believe just do it. Morrow's day - Tuesday is ruled by Mars and one of his faces is tearing down the old, bit like the Tower tarot card, so just do it.

I hope planetary references are not that much confusing.

Also me writing about wine might have been terribly insensitive if that is your addiction, but I believe to work with addictions we must examine and accept the fact that we have them because they are providing to us something that we need, problem being that the essence we are looking for must never be delivered in the poor quality. For example addiction to artificial sugar is about the need for sweet taste of Earth. Better eat eggs, corn porridge, cooked carrots and so. Addiction to alcohol or tobacco is about the need for Mars and fire. Better light yourself a campfire. Addiction to drugs is people's craving for spiritual ecstasy, better rub some essential oils into soles of your feet (Thuja essential will get you wasted but is also a poison that will grow fatigue and pimples so no more than 3 drops, rather try some non-poisonous standards such as lavender, magnolia, violets...).

Blessed be.

Lovely to hear from you, SL.
First of all I’d like to thank you on the promptness of your reply, I honestly wasn’t expecting one for a good while, especially one so detailed. Also in regards to the Willow tree - it’s the way it hangs, right? It just looks so ethereal and peaceful.
I will certainly be sticking around, I’ve been watching this forum for a while now (I know that may sound rather peeping Tom-like), just to make sure that it definitely wasn’t one that promoted ‘black magic’ and things like that. But I loved the strict rules on this site so decided it was the one for me.
Alcohol isn’t my addiction (though it was very sweet of you to be so considerate of that,) my problem is scratching at my arms when I get nervous or feel any negative emotion strongly. And just so you don’t worry too much, I’ll admit I indulged in a little apple cider tonight myself, and I’m sure you’re doing much better in your grammar and sentence construction than I am.
Admittedly I don’t know a great deal about the planets yet, I’m focusing on the Sabbats at the moment, what with Samhain coming up. Though I am aware that the planets each have their own properties, and it’s interesting to know that one about Mars, and the similarity with the Tower card.
I think I might take your advice and do it tomorrow night, ‘out with the old’ seems to resonate within me quite a bit so perhaps I should make use of that.
Once again thank you so much for replying,
Blessed be.

Yes, apple cider and willow for life.
You have a cute unwanted habit.
I'll be off 1-2 days, see you around.

I think moon timing is an aid but not mandatory. We don't have to work as hard when we use mMoon timing but passion for the intent fills in any gaps. So go when you're pumped.

Moon knows unconscious intelligence, so when you trigger it (doing the spell) it actually increase the power of the spell to infinity. You don't want a half-meant spell, they (your thoughts and feelings) don't like it much.

Thank you all for contributing your opinions, and Barker, I do understand what you mean when you say ‘half-meant’ spell.
However, I have decided to go with what my heart is telling me which is to do the spell tonight and utilise Mars’ properties as SL said. I have the need, the emotion, and it just feels right tonight.
Once again thank you for your replies, I’ll be sure to let you know tomorrow how I feel it went.
Blessed be.

Nah - don't do that. It's customary not to discuss a spell because it scatters the energy. You pull it back & forth like a yo-yo. When it's done just forget it & let the power do its thing. Detach to dispatch.

The Mars serves also the purpose of active defence to chase that away.

Not "my fault for having an unwanted reaction"
but "their fault for being bastards!"

Try to turn the tables around a bit.
Nettles and turkeys are of martial nature. You can see how nettles defends itself in prevention. Last time I've seen turkeys was at grandmother's garden 15+ years ago. They've been aggressive from behind the fence all the time. Just for prevention reasons.

I bet you can work a lot of magic to get that going once you have the idea.

I was once very adhered to this "rule" and while it does make good sense to work with as many correspondences as possible, when one has a need. waiting for the right time seems a waste of energy. One of my first teachers said do it when the time is right for you. Sometimes one cannot wait for the moon.
For instance, someone is ill. A cold or flu say, they need assistance right then. But if there is treatment that one must schedule with a hospital or other long term treatments and what not, I would use which ever phase would be most beneficial to the outcome.

Thank you all once again for your replies. I apologise for not logging on for a while, since my last visit I lost my baby boy, and I don’t know how to cope with it yet. When I come back I will answer you all properly, thank you for your patience.
