Man made Vs. Natural?

Discussion and questions about the magical properties and uses of crystals and stones.

Man made Vs. Natural?

Postby [AmberRose13] » Wed Mar 26, 2008 9:35 am

is there a difference between using a stone, gem. or crystal that is man made vs. one that is found in nature?

It seems like everytime I connect with a gem, its been man made... I wonder what that says about me, :)

ok.... here's an example. I am very attracted to goldstone, a stone I was told was human made. I have avoided buying it because of this.

The other stone that always draws me is Citrine. That is the one that I made into the necklace that I always wear. For some reason if I don't keep it on skin, it tends to jump away, lol.

Any input would be great!

Hi AmberRose,

We've had these discussions here before but it is a rampant issue for mineral lovers. I suggest that you buy your Goldstone right away: It is a fantastic copper and silica based specimen created by alchemical monks in the Renaissance. I see it as a Triumph of the human heart and mental ingenuity. It connects with Goddess energies and helps those who are studying alchemy and areas where science and faith intersect in fantastic ways. I work a lot with the Goddess Circe and she is quite connected to my Goldstones. In fact, she often appears in my mind's eye as a bright Goddess with the sparkles and flecks of light that one sees in Goldstone. I prefer blue, but red-tan is nice and green is gorgeous. Know that it's raw elements are copper and quartz so it is not as synthetic as you think.

As for Citrine, most of them are heat treated to bring out the yellow colour. They were originally amethysts--so they haven't been "man made" per se, just heated by humans to alter its colour. Citrine does grow naturally and is more of a golden brown than the fiery yellow of heat treated amethyst. In fact, the heat treated Citrines are usually more energetic and dynamic. It activates the proper use of will and alignment with your divine blueprint; it assists in manifestation of your hopes, fears and wishes (which is why it is good to check your desires before working with it--however, your linkage to the Divine Will should prevent the fears from manifesting to deeply into matter--unless it is part of your plan); it offers protection to the ego self which some days is a blessing; it can also give you a boost of energy and stamina to follow through on a project. I have a piece of heated citrine of my keychain for my car keys and I have become a much better and aware driver---i'm sure the Citirine has something to do with it--it is a mental stimulant and protective agent.

The natural citrine has a duller energy that behaves much more like a smokey quartz than the citirine descriptions above.

I argue that if you are drawn to a stone, treated, man-made or not, then that stone is calling you and offers you something that you need right now. Enjoy your Goldstone for it can really bring the harmonies of Goddess energy to your door!

Please Excuse me for interfering your discussion.. May I ask if we can heat-treat amethyst crystals at home?

From what I understand the temperature you would have to raise to achieve this would be phenomenal. Equipment to bring about this heat is not readily available to most people.

Check on this page, http://www.gemstone.org/gem-by-gem/english/citrine.html. A ways down it talks about the heat treatment of citrines. Evenly heating up a crystal to the point of changing color without fracturing it does not seem a simple task. So I'd agree, it wouldn't be things around the house you'd want to use.

Edit: Ah, found more information on the treating process: http://www.khulsey.com/jewelry/gemstone_enhancement.html.

thanks for the info. I should probably buy that goldstone soon...

There's another one I am very attracted to, but don't know the name of. It looks like an oil slick.

Anyone have an idea of what it could be?

Sorry hun, I've been overwhelmed and unable to post the last 3 or 4 days. Okay so, Hematite:

It simultaneously opens the root and crown chakras allowing for a dramatic flow of energy through the entire chakra system. It is strongly protective and can take undesireable energy residues from your aura and flow them into the ground to be recycled and re-used as fresh new energy...Thus, it is kind of a recycling agent in terms of energy. Its key words are "Manifest Light"--that is it brings light from the farthest reaches of the etheric plane and brings it down to the physical plane. Note that the etheric plane is very connected to the earth plane and so this stone acts as a conduit for electromagentic Earth energy to flow, alter, decay and grow. I suppose you could link this stone with "The Pope" or "Hierophant" card in the Tarot as it too is a manifester of spiritual light on earth. I have 4 hematites now and each one has a subtly different pulse. One of them gets me dizzy everytime, as if it were a high energy spiritual stone like Herderite, Brookite, or Moldavite. But, another one I have you can actually feel the energy draw down into your spinal column, through the root chakra into the legs, and earthstar chakra at the soles of the feet and into the earth, as if it were akin to a lower physical stone like Black Obsidian or Spider Jasper. I suggest that you work with a few specimens to see the energetic differences. Hematites can run the gamut of energies to offer. There is now, on the market, some Magnetic Hematite specimens that really bring the energy down, but I advise caution with this as it can really mess with your energy systems if you don't work usually with magnetic stones like this or Lodestone. Plus, the crafts-people have found a way to synthetically magnetize the Hematites so it is not a "natural" magnetic charge like Lodestone.

What's it for? Pretty much anything you can think of! Happy Hematiting. . .

Manifest light,

I went to buy the hematite and the goldstone and they were out of the hematite. I didn't feel any connection to the goldstone anymore, but did to the Blue Goldstone, Pyrate, one I cannot remember the name of, and just an interesting looking window amythist from Brazil. I don't think the last one is useful for anything but being pretty, lol but I like it.
