Making Runes

Postby LC » Sat Oct 13, 2018 10:10 am

Would making your own Runes work the same as if you bought ones already?

It wouldn’t be on any paper-like stuff.

Thanks!

in my opinion anything you make your self has more of your personal energy and power attached to it, making a strong connection to you.

Absolutely agree with FBF! When we make something ourselves it adds our personal energy to it so it responds to our thoughts better than something store bought. Painting pebbles, Fimo baked clay or wooden discs are very popular ways to make runes. Even wooden cubes can be made into rune dice.

Thanks both of you! This makes me excited because it always seemed like I had to buy the things.

That's just modern marketing strategy. Witches have been around long before shops & book stores, so they certainly made their own tools & took their time to craft something with bling.

There is craft in the Craft. :fairy:
You know... even for paper, you could use 3x5 cue cards (index cards) and make some real pretty decorations on them. Then, on the back you could put notes as to what they mean.
Maybe share when you're finished? I love to see what others are making.

That’s a great idea! I never thought of notecards. I’m always unsure if using something other than what is in a book or see it in shops/online. Like I worry it won’t have as much umph or won’t work. I definitely see how most is a marketing strategy after what you all said.

Agree with others re making them yourself. You will feel personal energy. I used runes from the Elder Futhark in the past and if these were bought, I would sleep with them under my pillow and carry them with me to feel closer to them

The Elder Futhark was used by the Germanic tribes.

I followed the Asatru/Heathen path for many years. Towards the end of my journey I did not feel the connection I was searching for which led me to look more into Wicca.

I was given runes many years ago, but they weren't for me. No matter how I tried they would always tell me what I wanted to hear, not what was the real answer.
They ended up going to a friend and she was very happy with them.

I recommend Diana Paxon's book, "Taking up the Runes" for a real in depth look. She has included exercises and rituals associated with them. Pictures are also helpful to remember the Runes, our brains respond well to pictures and symbols that one of the reasons I like making cue type cards, (reminds me of flash cards, but better) They help to remember what each one means.. Right now I am working on the Ogham and making cards for that. Later, when I have a better understanding I can make some more aesthetic (ideally out of the specific woods) but maybe in clay.
