London Riots

Postby Cora » Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:54 am

I hope everyone here from in and around London has been safe during these lunatic riots. My Dad and my Partner work nights in London and I can't tell you how panicked I've been this week. Luckily my Dad refused to go to Croydon last night and my partner isn't in a retail area but he said there is a tense weird feeling in the air. The people doing this are nothing but thieving thugs. They said that it was low income areas and people were unhappy with spending cuts but that doesn't wash with me. My Dad was brought up in Lewisham which was a very deprived area, he worked hard to better his life. He certainly didn't go round looting and burning places down. These idiots feel that Society owes them and they have every right to cause damage. Problem is its innocent people who are being affected and its the taxpayer who will get lumped with the clean up bill for it too!

Hopefully things will be sorted soon but I imagine there will be another night of Riots tonight.

I hope if you're in or around the areas affected that you and your families are safe and out of harms way.

xx

Its getting really silly now. I work about 20 miles away from London and the local shops are closing early and boarding up as there are loads of rumours that small riots are due to brake out. Even the big 24hr Tesco store that is usually open every day other than Christmas is closing early. At work we've been told to get our technicians out of certain areas and only send them to main water bursts if the police let us!

Crazy times!

It's horrible. What's worse is that I found out about the riots on, of all places, twitter. I turned on CNN last night, because I assumed there would be some news about it, and there was nothing. Many people in America have no idea what's going on, which I find terribly sad.

Wow really! I wonder if they are trying to keep it quiet because of the Olympics? We are all being proper stiff upper lipped, British types today and trying to carry on as usual. My partner always goes to work no matter what. Even during the 7/7 bombings he caught the train to London. Crazy man.

Hopefully the police will gain control tonight. The public are getting really fed up with it now. Its totally stupid. Some people were saying its a protest against the cut backs but they don't seem to realise that the clean up operation will cost loads and that the cuts will have to be deeper now. Dumbasses.

They have calmed down now Laruna but they started on Monday. The authorities are coming down hard on them. I heard that a family have been evicted from their council house because their son was one of the rioters. They are stopping their benefits too if they have them.

A big clean up operation is going on now.
