Holy oil?

Postby Observantcat » Wed May 15, 2019 2:19 pm

I am trying to find out how to make consecration oil? or Holy oil? For cleansing tools, items, and other items, like a scrying bowl, or water?

Be Blessed!

Cleansing is a different function from consecrating. Cleansing purifies & removes blockages & interference. Consecration separates from the mundane as sacred & imparts, links-to or awakens power.

The mixture I've known of for holy chrism oil combines mostly olive oil with balsam (for aroma) & a bit of salt. Other popular scent choices instead of balsam would be cinnamon, all spice or star anise. The scent is usually mild & just noticeable.

A blessing "formula" is to state what the substance represents in positive, life affirming phrases, & then charge it with energy in the name of a chosen deity.

Use the things that remind you of earth.

The moment is a very fleeting thing; to me "holy" is just understanding that truth.

What is the biblical/historical basis for holy oil and holy water for the ACNA? I come from more of a Lutheran background but am curious. Why are these used? How would one argue for their legitimacy?

Couldn't tell ya. Don't believe there is anyone here who is a part of the Anglican church on this forum.
Although waters and oils have been long used for purifying and blessing and predate the Christian churches.

@ DJ - I just browsed an RC site and it gave Old & New Test. Biblical references so you might check an Anglican site for their sources & arguments (which I'd think might be similar to Lutheran, Episcopal or Catholic). I only know that for magical use water cleanses & oil holds & transfers a psychic charge. I don't have a clue when in history water & oil were 1st used in a sacramental function but ancient Assyrian & Summerian & Egyptian inscriptions refer to anointing priest-kings and David-the-shepherd was washed & anointed by Jewish priests when he was made king of Israel in what I'd call a battle field promotion in the Old Test. story. Apparently it was an earlier & wide spread pagan custom. It'd be interesting to research sometime to find out what different substances are used in Eurasian, African, Indian & American indigenous cultures in a similar way. I'd suppose each culture would use what was native to their location. You don't see many olive trees in Iceland.

*firebird flys*

True that. I don't remember many trees. Mainly peet feilds, but some forests.

The lava rock beaches are the best

Olive oil without the fragrance.

A mix between some supposed food substance and no idea whatsoever. :)
