Gaia offerings question

Postby nightshroud » Sun Aug 12, 2018 12:20 pm

hello everybody I have a question that's been on my mind for a while.

I was wondering what offerings would you give to Gaia?

Consider that everything harvested & commercially available is of the Earth. We aren't importing from off planet - yet. It's all from Earth. It's already Gaia's. The closer an offering is to it's original state, the better. Plastic is recycled inert matter, so is dead & doesn't make a life-enhancing offering. Gaia offerings should have a life enhancing theme.

With Actions
Picking up trash
Recycling & repurposing
Feeding birds in winter
Reserving an UN-mowed area of the yard where it may grow as it will
Water house plants with H2O that has been crystal enhanced
Keep a small garden to enjoy Earth-watching
Compost plant waste materials in a tub & mix with dirt to re-use as fertilizer
Land blessing rituals
Stone circles - table-top size or stand-within size

With Material Offerings
Apple juice - feeds plant life & speeds ripening of fruits like tomato
Energy Blessed water & milk combined
Lay out a simple 9' stone circle for ritual use to channel Earth energy
Fruits of the Earth, especially locally grown & in-season
Peanut butter & jelly sandwich - the whole thing cut into bite size chunks
Wheat bread, dark loaf breads
Rice, dried beans, dried or fresh herbs, flowers
Beer
Earth worms rescued from fish bait shops - these critters are Gaia's work horses in the soil; the idea is to set them free

If you're looking for more traditional offerings, the Orphic hymns suggest offering aromatic herbs as incense - so things like thyme, culinary sage, lavender, mugwort, bay leaves, chamomile, mint, and coriander. Burned grains (but not beans, apparently), would also have been offered. Any grains are fine, but in Greece it would have been barley or wheat.

As a chthonic deity black animals were sacrificed to her - although obviously no longer an appropriate offering in today's context, as most of us do not raise animals, etc, but instead one can do like the Orphics were said to do, and make cookies in the shapes of those animals. In Gaia's case, rams and lambs specifically. You can make chocolate cookies and they will look black. Flowers and fruits were also likely offerings. Things like grapes, pomegranate, apple, olives, apricots, plums, pears, and figs. Gaia was closely associated with Demeter, so she was probably also offered bread (and it's possible that she would not be offered wine).

But I second SpiritTalker with considering actions as offerings - specifically, as was mentioned, things like picking up litter, recycling, and caring for the land in other ways. Physical acts often get overlooked, but they can be important acts of devotion.
I sing of Artemis, the pure maiden, who cheers on the hounds, the hunter of stags, who delights in archery over the shadowy hills and windy peaks, who draws her golden bow, rejoicing in the chase.

Look up some images for ideas ... Maybe use 4 of a distinctive shape for the compass points & the rest as you like. As always it depends on what you can find & how much work goes into it.
