Being a Lifelong Learner & Staying Excited

Postby Garnetsun » Fri Nov 15, 2013 11:40 am

Merry meet everyone !

I had a little question. For those who made The year and a day study, or when you began studying, researching Wicca, Witchcraft and other Pagan paths, what did you do to... spice things up ?
I am really interested and immersed in what I read, i began to write in a journal what I read and what I feel about it, and I know Wicca and the Craft is for me. But maybe, i feel like its... not that savorous. I finished a few books about the basics, like Cunnigham's first guide, A Wiccan Bible, Exploring Wicca.
I'm not ready to cast spells yet, or a least big ones that use tools; and I was wondering what did you do during that time. Or when you feel that you lost energy in what you do.
I'm trying to incorpore the God and Goddess, and magick as much as I can (even though the situation is not the best for that. But, while I was doing the therapy, I prayed to Lugh, and I distinctly heard a "yes" and the sun shone brightly -through a steady mass of clouds-. I'm quite... shaken by that still.); but I don't really have any ideas.

Blessed be all!

It's true that after a while most of the introductory books start sounding the same (here's the Rede, the Wheel of the Year, how to build your basic altar, etc.). As a solitary, it's easy to feel stagnated in your education; there are only so many books to read! Exploring your personal experiences is one avenue, as you mentioned above. You may also start honing in on the particular subjects that interest and excite you (for me, discovering the runes and doing additional studying there was a big step for me). You can also consider finding a local coven, if one's available in your area.

Thank you for your answer Xiao ! I feared a little that no one would understand the feeling.
Then i'll try to work on meditation more often (since I can do that at the hospital too), to attune myself more with the elements and Deities. I'll wait for my return before beginning to cast spells, and do rituals though.
Unfortunately, there isn't a coven in my area. The closest one is at the other end of the country. Maybe I could try to see if there is some Pagans "gathering" somewhere.
Did you try something else besides runes ? And maybe a good book ? I'm quite interested in them, but I don't really know where to begin. I've drawn some runes that I knew already, but no more than that.

Oh, for sure! We all have ebbs and flows in our lives in terms of how actively we work on our spirituality; sometimes life just catches up with you and you can't do as much as you like. Actually, the runes thing happened to me quite accidentally - I went to a medieval fair (yep, I'm really nerdy!) and they just so happened to be holding a workshop on the history of runes that I attended, and then I started studying it like crazy. You never know what'll come your way that'll pique your interest! Luckily we have our whole lives to figure everything out, so right now you working on your meditation skills sounds like a great idea! (which I should do too, incidentally ... cough)

That's okay. I don't have a proper coven in my area either. It's becoming more common now to congregate online, anyways! As we are both doing now, on this forum!

As for books, a bunch of our members have reviewed books here if you wanted to browse and see what interested you!

I never really had that problem, but maybe listening to some inspiring music? Adrian Von Zeigler is pretty good, he makes videos on YouTube. Also maybe you could do some simple spells that involve invoking Gods or Goddesses, do you have a particular God or Goddess? For Goddesses I'm leaning towards Gaia and Hecate, but for Gods.... I'm not so sure. I'm leaning towards Herne, because I keep coming back to that name. But anyway, onto your questions, you can do spells if you want to, I don't see a problem with that :fairy:

I understand. In some ways, my returning to Wicca is both a blessing and a light curse. I've never been more at peace with myself and my surroundings, but my going to the hospital really put a hold on my advencement and spiritual work. While studying is interesting sill, i can't really work on it.
(I go to a lot of medieval fair, so not that nerdy ahaha). Runes always interested me... they're quite mystifying. Like many divination tools. But like tarot, they have something more, for me.I'll probably buy or find a few books, and a set of rune to work on, since it's quite easy to hide.
Meditation is the greatest tool, but not the one we always work on, unfortunately aha.

But well, we have a great community here! As good as a coven, even though we can't make rituals all together.

Thank you a lot Xiao, I'll search into it then.

Thank you too Saskia!
I'll try to add a few spells or little rituals besides the daily prayers then. I don't really want to do spells yet with the hospital -my emotional and physical condition is not good at all-.
I'm quite the opposite actuall. I believe my God is Lugh -icidentally, he is the first one I searched for since i began seriously to commit myself to Wicca, and his brief speaking to me-, but I really don't know about the Goddess. Kerridwen is linked to Lugh, but I don't have a preference, and my asking has gone yet unanswered.
I'm happy you found yours though :)
