Difference between predictions and negativity?

Postby onetwothree » Fri Dec 07, 2018 2:45 pm

Is there a way to differentiate between making a prediction about something, and just being negative and pulling the event into your life?

For example, if you were waiting for an important phone call, but you knew you were not going to get the call today. There is no logical reason for you to believe that, because you absolutely could get the call that day. The day ends, and you did not receive the call. How do you know that your prediction or intuition was correct, or if it was just you being negative, and that changed the course of you getting that call?

A real prediction has a "numinous" or "ineffable" feel to it. The other stuff feels for me, i can only say, "bored."

Now that's an interesting question.

Some times I have a "hunch" about what's going to happen and most often it comes about something bad that's going to happen to me. The problem is that I often think that the "hunch" is just me being negative and always thinking of the worst outcome... But most of the time, what I have "foreseen" will happen just like I saw/sensed it would. The way to deal with it in my opinion is not to dwell in it, just pay attention but not overthink as not to "jinx" yourself into bad things happening.

The difference for me is that a real hunch about something feels different, it feels meaningful in some way as if something outside of me is warning me or telling about things to come. Its bit difficult to explain, I don't have this kind of thing very often and when it comes, I often shake it off my mind as just negative thinking and later I find out the hunch was correct.

I mentioned a leg injury on another thread. I knew of that happening in advance, but didn't get the place and time right, if I did, I would have been able to avoid it, thus making the "prediction" incorrect.

Anyway, this is very interesting subject. I think the way to make this clear is to not overthink and try not to be too pessimistic and then pay a close attention when something feels like a prediction of things to come. I guess this is much easier to someone who regularly senses things that are to happen.

For a couple of months before I broke my hip, I had a rotten feeling that I was going to break my hip. Then I did. I think some things are going to happen, basically as a wake up call that something in your life needs to change.

That is very interesting that you both had predictions of a body part breaking! I can just never tell when I know something is a waste of time, or negative thinking. Like in my example of the phone call, if I know the call is not going to come, it is a waste of my time and energy to make sure my phone is by me at all time, checking the service constantly, but then how do I know it's not just my negative thinking.

But maybe if you accept the possible negative outcome, finding the good and staying positive with the potential of it ending poorly. Then you know it was not from your negative thinking and worry, because you were content with it potentially not ending in your favor.

It is a little sucky that there is so easy answer, but I guess it gives us more of a reason to really focus and pay attention to what we are feeling. Thank you!
