Deck for an EXTREMELY picky artist?

Postby Thalassa » Sun Jun 15, 2014 6:39 pm

Hello, everyone!

I really love tarot. Really love it. Unfortunately, I don't always love the art on the cards... I'm an artist, and I'm not going to say anything like 'I'm a master in my field' because I'm not. However, I am skilled enough that I can see where other people make mistakes.

While usually this is a good thing, as I can pick out my own mistakes and continue improving my own skills, it makes things like finding a tarot deck very, very annoying... which leads to the purpose of this thread: anyone have some suggestions for a picky artist? I'm looking for a deck that, aside from having a good theme/overall feel, doesn't have a lot of anatomy mistakes and bad composition. I also prefer drawn/painted/whatever decks to photo-manipulation decks.

Some decks that I like:
-Shadowscapes is one of my favorite decks. The anatomy's great and her style's gorgeous. My sister has it, though, and I associate it a little too much to her for it to work for me.
-Universal Goddess Tarot. My other sister has this deck.
-I currently have Revelations. I like the style of this one a lot, but the anatomy could be better.
-Tarot Art Nouveau from Lo Scarabeo
-Ukiyoe Tarot (Koji Furuta)
-Chinese Tarot (Jui Guoliang)
-Der-Jen Tarot

As you can see I've got a few I can pick from, but I'm looking for other suggestions! Especially if you know of a self-published deck with good art. Money's not really an object--even if I can't afford it I can still drool over the art, haha.

Anyway, if you've got an idea, please post it!
Thanks! (:

Okay, I know this isn't exactly what you asked for but have you checked out this website? http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/list.shtml It has a long list of tarot decks and you can even preview some of the cards from each deck.

My first deck was Tarot of the Cat People. I also have The White Cat Tarot. I need to take a closer look at that site.

Deck for an EXTREMELY picky artist?

From an Artist's standpoint deviant moon is pretty amazing. Google what the artist did in that deck and take a look. He used actual people and morphed them and overlaid images using actual tombstone from images from a cemetery he loved.

Steampunk tarot, Paulina, Joie de Vivre, and Tyldwick tarot and of course Shadowscapes but you already have that.

Tyldwick is self published, so you might want to check it out.
I've been pretty picky with my decks so I'm just listing whatever I have haha.
