Anyone Follow Hermes?

Postby BeckyDarling » Sat Jan 14, 2012 5:19 am

I never thought I'd have two Gods. I'm a follower of Poseidon.

But then all of a sudden I had a dream about Hermes. I remember it was urgent and important although I do not remember what had happened. I couldn't stop thinking about him. Which is funny, as he was always my least favorite Greek God (thank you, Disney's Hercules, for making him incredibly annoying). I did some quick research and it turns out he takes care of Geminis! I'm a Gemini!

So is anyone else a follower of Hermes? I'm not sure how to represent him on my altar.

Hmm well as far as I know he started out as a messenger god and later became a patron of sports and thieves, than he became the god of trade and painters than he became the god of the spoken word than calcullus and astrology.
If you need something to represent him how about a scale and weights or feathers because birds are seen as the messengers of the gods. How about a dictionary since he was a very eloquent god, or a quil.

Hope this helps,
Blessings

Hermes is my major deity though I've never actually met anyone else who follows him. Because he is primarily a messenger god he might simply be trying to tell you something but it wouldn't hurt to do some research into him. His wikipedia page is actually quite extensive so that would be a good place to start. As for representing him on your altar, his symbols are the caduceus, tortoise, and the lyre. However I have made up my own symbol for him. It looks like a wing to symbolize his winged sandals abut I've incorporated a witches spiral into it. Hope this helps!
