Anxiety/Panic Attacks?

Postby love beats all (; » Sat Dec 28, 2013 8:55 pm

Hey guys, so I know It's been a good while since I've been here, but I wanted to get your opinions on this before I make a drastic step toward medication or something.
Every so often, usually stressful times (I'm currently taking AP Calc and Chem along with Physics and a College Political Science Class,) I have almost a disconnected with reality. I'll start questioning the validity of everything around me and feel my heart beating faster with slight hyperventilation. No one around me knows when I'm having these attacks because there aren't any outward signs so there's and even stronger feeling of being inside my own head. When I have these swings of altered reality they're also accompanied by periods of suicidal thoughts that are brooded upon and just scare me even more. I'm nit sure if these are anxiety or panic attacks or what, but they are severely frightening and lead me to question my own sanity regularly. Has anyone else experienced something like this and if so, what is the correct course of action?

I have anxiety , bi polar, depression and I get panic attacks all the time. When I get panic attacks , they are usually about death and I get chest pains and feel like I am drowning. I even blacked out once. I used to be on medication years ago but they only increased my depression and turn me into a zombie. That was just the way I reacted to some medication. I would recommend seeking some help maybe a therapist because they can teach you techniques that can help without medication. If you ever need someone to talk to , please do not hesitate to message me. I've spent all my teen years on different medications and learning different techniques to cope.

Those do sound like panic attacks. Medication greatly worsened them for me, but everyone is different with how they react. I would recommend seeing a doctor and then carefully considering whatever they recommend. Do you notice anything setting them off? For me, it usually is related to some fear or stress. If I can deal with whatever is increasing them, it will often decrease their frequency. If you are unsure, counseling may also be a good option. Meditation and yoga also seem to be good for them for me too. And I also have taken hard classes like you mention. Don't forget the importance of taking time for yourself to do something you enjoy or just have some quiet without thinking of your classes.

Anyway, panic attacks are pretty common and you are certainly not losing your sanity. Your mind is just being stressed past what it can handle, and if you can decrease the stress or at least the effect the stress is having on you, whether by medication or mental awareness, you should be able to decrease them. You do need to do something though, since you say suicidal thoughts are occurring, and that can get very scary very fast.

Thanks guys (:
These sometimes happen in unusual environments as well, one of them while I was watching a play and I think the surrealism of the dark theatre coupled with the fact that a completely different world that was going on on stage set it off. The only time I'd experienced anything like this before this past year was a couple years ago on some bad weed, which I attributed at the time to common anxiety / paranoia.
I'm planning to at least bring it up to my mother so that if it gets any worse I can go to the doctor.

Are there any meditations in specific that work well for this?

Again, thanks for the replies!

I find most of my meditations on YouTube . Most of the time I end up falling asleep during. You can search meditations for anxiety there. Also search for ocean sounds or white noise. If you have a cell that you play apps on I'd search for white noise or relaxing sound apps.
